Any relation to George? aka , Constanza a solid choice who will help. Former attackman , wonder if concentration remains on that side of ball assisting March or spread out. Many thanks to Donahue, substantive person and coach. His wealth of knowledge and persona will be missed.

Cuse has played some memorable games over the years and I've had the chance to enjoy many of them. While it may be difficult for some to say which one was the best but that is not so for me. In my mind it was the 2009 Championship match vs Cornell:

I was on a certain chat box which will go unnamed here and that it was time for Dan Hardy to step up in order for Cuse to make its comeback in that exciting thriller. He did so (just like big brother Tom did a few years before) and you know what happened next.

What a game!

IIRC correctly, it was Cuse that was the first American team to use Kernkraft 400's Zombie Nation as its goal scoring theme:

crowd chant starting at 1:57

Those were the Championship days - let's bring them and the theme back.

Here you go

In game one vs. Hofstra, all six offensive starters registered multiple points to key a first half outburst that saw the Orange jump out to a 10-1 lead at the end of two. Lucas Quinn was 'Cuse's leading scorer vs. the Pride out of the second midfield unit, scoring twice and adding two assists. Griffin Cook (3-0), Brendan Curry (1-2), Mikey Berkman (1-2), Jamie Trimboli (2-0), Tucker Dordevic (2-0), Stephen Rehfuss (0-2) and Chase Scanlan (1-1) all picked up multiple points in the contest.

Jacob Buttermore, Peter Dearth, Andrew Kim, Owen Seebold and Pete Fiorini also notched a goal, while Brett Kennedy picked up an assist in transition as well to round out the 'Cuse scoring.

Defensively, the Orange were excellent vs. Hofstra. 'Cuse only allowed 11 shots on net through the three quarters of play and eight of which were turned away by the trio of netminders who saw action. Drake Porter stopped all-four shots he faced, while Luke Strang and Willie Klan III each added two saves as well.

The tandem of Danny Varello and Jakob Phaup combined to win eight of 15 restarts in the first two quarters, while Nate Garlow won three of the seven third quarter faceoffs.

Against Vermont, 'Cuse got its offense settled in early once again, jumping out to a 7-3 lead in the first 15 minutes and owning a 10-5 lead through two quarters before both teams emptied their respective benches.

Trimboli (2-2) and Dordevic (3-1) led the way with four points apiece vs. the Catamounts, while Curry tallied three helpers and Cook notched two more goals to ignite the Orange offense. Buttermore (1-0), Andrew Kim (0-1), Andrew Helmer (1-0), Dearth (0-1), Quinn (1-0), Pete Fiorini (1-0) and Jake Nelson (0-1) contributed to the game two scoring as well.

Porter was again solid in cage, stopping six of the 11 shots he faced, while Strang made four saves in relief in the third quarter.

Inside Lacrosse Scrimmage Notes: Syracuse Shows Offensive Balance, Defensive Tweaks vs. Vermont.Monday January 27th, 2020 10:00am
.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Following a 9-5 campaign in 2019, Syracuse men’s lacrosse opened up its preseason Sunday with two scrimmages in the Ensley Athletic Center on SU’s campus.

In the first scrimmage, Syracuse defeated Hofstra 17-3, with starters playing the majority of the first two quarters. Hofstra and Vermont scrimmaged next and played to a 10-10 tie before SU defeated Vermont, 11-10, to finish the day. The Catamounts outscored Syracuse 5-1 in the final quarter in which the Orange played mainly reserves.

Below are some observations from the start of the preseason in Syracuse, focusing on the Vermont-Syracuse game that was open to the public

Firming up the lineup
Defensive midfielder Dami Oladunmoye and midfielder David Lipka both didn’t dress for the scrimmages. Lipka, who’s battling an injury Syracuse head coach John Dekso didn’t disclose, should be fine come the start of the season, Desko said. Lipka might play in Sunday’s scrimmage against Yale while Oladunmoye will be fine, per Dekso. Oldaunmoye sat out due to illness.

Syracuse played much of the first two quarters against Vermont with consistent lineups. Perhaps most notable was Brett Kennedy, who has played longstick midfield in the past and in parts of practice leading up to this season, playing close defense alongside Nick Mellen and Nick Dipietro.

Syracuse graduated two defenders from last season as well as longstick midfielder Austin Fusco. With Jared Fernandez healthy and Andrew Helmer back for a final year, Syracuse may slide Kennedy down to close defense depending on matchups, Desko said.

Kennedy, a fast cover defender who has shown an ability to score in the past, adds a second lockdown option alongside Mellen. He also provides an offensive threat to bring the ball up in transition, which led to an assist to Griffin Cook against UVM.

“A couple times I noticed the other team didn't really notice who he was and tried to take the ball away from him,” Desko said. “He made them pay.”

Helmer also played come close defense on Sunday, and Desko said that SU is “narrowing it down,” in reference to the defensive rotation.

On offense, it looked like Syracuse has found its replacements for Nate Solomon and Bradley Voigt, who both graduated last year. Cook and Chase Scanlan, the transfer from Loyola, played alongside senior Stephen Rehfuss

Could Syracuse’s offense be better?
If Sunday’s scrimmages were any indication, the Orange may be more productive offensively than last year. In 2019, Syracuse averaged 12.86 goals per game and ranked 15th in the country in scoring offense. On Sunday, Syracuse scored 27 goals in six quarters of offense.

Under new offensive coordinator Pat March, Syracuse’s is attacking more from the wings and creating more step-down shot opportunities. This led to several spot shots from players such as Tucker Dordevic (5 goals on the day) and Cook (6 goals).

“We're going to dodge hard try to draw slides and move the ball fast and when we do that the defense tends to get sucked down,” senior midfielder Jamie Trimboli said. “So if you bang it to the backside, a lot of times that's a great look right there, or if it's not a shot it's a least a great dodge on a guy coming on at you.”

After sitting out all of last season with a foot injury, Dordevic appeared healthy as he has all offseason. He exploded quickly several times past defenders for goals but also turned the ball over a few times on errant passes into the middle.

With Dordevic back, Syracuse has its top line of midfielders from two seasons ago back together as he joins Jamie Trimboli (4G, 2A) and Brendan Curry (1, 5). The line contributed a total of 68 points to SU’s offense in 2018.

“Well you know, the other team is going to have to make some decisions on who they're going to pole. Do they go to Tucker, Curry, or Trimboli?" Desko said through a smile. "There aren't a lot of good answers there."

At attack, Cook looked to play the part of the departed Solomon. Cook, a 5-foot-7 176-pound sophomore, looked more aggressive than his freshman season. He’s always been a good rider, as Desko noted, but on Sunday he attacked the cage more than last year. He stepped down and ripped a goal once against Vermont and scored in transition after coming around from X and flinging the ball in backhanded.

“He's starting to look like the lacrosse player that I saw in high school,” Desko said. “I think last year with some seniors around him and some upperclassmen, he looked like he didn't want to step on anybody's toes. This year he's starting to make things happen.”

Next week vs Yale will be interesting to say the least. With little practice under their belts, they took it to Cuse last year. Perhaps the loss to Colgate in first game was due to team confidence being down, post Yale scrimmage? Of course not to take anything away from Gate's fine win...

Anyone know what happened to Wood and Swenson? Both were '19s committed - and at least Swenson was mentioned in a post from the school last Fall. I don't see either on the roster.
