INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.
- A 91-year-old from Indiana ditched her walker for her dancing shoes when she boogied to Elvis Presley's Jailhouse Rock. Footage by Golden Age Home Health Care shows retirement home resident Julia Lewis dancing her socks off to the iconic tune on Wednesday.
Dairy co-operative Land O’Lakes has removed the image of a Native American woman from its butter packaging. The co-op’s logo depicted a Native American woman, kneeling on a mound of grass, holding a package of butter—an image that critics have said is offensive.
The company issued a press release in February, announcing it was revamping the label to showcase farmers and commemorate Land O’Lakes’ hundredth anniversary. But the press release didn’t even mention the “butter maiden.”

I thought that was Liz Warren.
If we need that extra push over the cliff, ya know what we do...eleven, exactly.

I see there's a Nokomis, MN but LO'L doesn't reference the butter maiden by name. She's mentioned as a Native American woman.
Is it more local legend than fact? Just wondering. Couldn't find any reference in gen'l search.
Nokomis means Daughter of the Moon who was known for her great wisdom. She was Hiawatha's grandma:
By the shores of Gitche Gumee,
By the shining Big-Sea-Water
Stood the wigwam of Nokomis Daughter of the moon Nokomis.
Dark behind it rose the forest.
~ Longfellow, Song of Hiawatha
Many folks here in Lake Wobegone name their daughers Nokomis or Wenonah (her daughter) who was Hiawatha's mom.

Regardless, good for her. Although doing that route would drive me crazy at least she didn’t have to contend with the Wellesley hills, the Newton hills and then Heartbreak Hill at the 20 mile mark. She’ll have that fun in Sept....
The other day I stop at an Indian market to stock up on tandoori paste, yogurt, dal and spice mixes. Next door is a laundromat. In front is a parked Porsche.
I posted a link yesterday in the Science and Engineering thread on this. I am just glad that for the moment Washington state is pretty durned far from South Carolina...
