Re: Climate Change & The Environment
I’m not sure how to move this topic to a more relevant thread because it doesn’t really belong here. Nevertheless, MD’s reply above can in essence suffice for much of what goes on here.
I didn’t mention that Dr Watson has been a family friend for, well, forever to me as I’m somewhere around half his age. I’ve played tennis with him on numerous occasions though not in the last ten years.
Dr Watson is incapable of refusing to answer a question. His life has been about data and science. His opinions, based on actual studies, are not woke. They may not even be correct. But the guy doesn’t know how to lie. So he replies and lets the chips fall where they may. Money has never been his obsession.
So MD does what comes naturally to many of us. He finds a wiki page or any page for that matter and exalts ‘aha he’s a racist’. I assume MD has not met Dr Watson not had any substantive dialogue with the man. That doesn’t stop most of us from the mob mentality of reducing one human to a third party’s analysis based on the interpretation of events and interviews.
Because if we owned a shred of nuance, you’d pause and learn that Dr Watson is the sweetest man you’ll ever meet. He’s given tremendous free time to subjects only loosely related to his principal field, such as Fragile X.
The self serious self important echo chamber of the left and neverTrump is a blight on real intelligence.
I’m skiing in Vail now (MLK weekend) so I can’t monitor this website often; plus my admin cut it off when I remote log (we will have a chat upon my return). I applaud renegades like Old Salt, Cradle, and Tech37. From the outside looking in, those three are the ones here who make the most sense, in spite of the mob constantly poking at them.

Start a White Supremacy thread. Dr. Watson’s views would be more fitting there.Peter Brown wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 11:41 am I’m not sure how to move this topic to a more relevant thread because it doesn’t really belong here. I wonder if PB’s HR / Talent Acquisition department shares the same views as Dr. Watson.

Glad to hear that Watson is a sweet fellow to you.
And I have no doubt that he did ground breaking genetic work back in the '50's, nor that he's done positive things in the field on behalf of those afflicted with genetic disorders. I also didn't suggest that he kicks his dog.
But sorry, these were not simply answers to questions (perhaps in-artfully responded to), they were his own, intentional presentations. Repeatedly.
And, yup, those are racist and sexist "opinions", not "fact-driven".
I had a sorta family member, not long ago deceased, grandfather of the 3 daughters of my wife's sister, an acclaimed geneticist who worked at Columbia University. Extremely bright, erudite, charming...until he spoke about race and gender. And what came out was immensely ignorant baloney, really ugly stuff...emotional, not scientific. Similar to the stuff from Watson.
These guys try to wrap their intellectual, "scientific" credentials around their childhood bigotries. But their conclusion is a 'justification' of a white supremacist, male dominated social set of views.
Don't buy it.
Their intellectual peers in the genetics field don't.
Back to climate, Roy Spencer is cut from much the same cloth, a "scientist" who lets his bigotries get in the way of the science.

Yep. I recommend a new book by Daniel Okrent - The Guarded Gate - Bigotry, Eugenics and the Law That Kept Two Generations of Jews, Italians, and Other European Immigrants Out of America
https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-guarde ... 1556898327
You'd be surprised how many allegedly intelligent and notable people of the time had a similarly bad view of genetics and race.

I don’t understand how life expectancy and quality of life keeps expanding when all I read are doomsday articles. How is this possible!
Re: Climate Change & The Environment
Don't let facts get in your way. US life expectancy is lower today than in 2000.
