Decade just ended was hottest on record. .3 F hotter than the first decade of the 21st century. 1.4 F hotter than the 20th century average. 1.3 F hotter than the temperature 40 years ago (1979).

This is why you study it. From what I have seen, it could be potentially bad. Like drinking and driving could have a negative outcome but not always.youthathletics wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 3:23 pmAgreedTypical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 3:21 pmWho said anything about a bad thing?youthathletics wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 2:55 pmWhy is that a bad thing?Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 2:27 pmI wonder if there is a strong correlation:jhu72 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 2:06 pm Decade just ended was hottest on record. .3 F hotter than the first decade of the 21st century. 1.4 F hotter than the 20th century average. 1.3 F hotter than the temperature 40 years ago (1979).

Fun to see how the Spencer adherent - in spite of clear and convincing argument(s) - clings to his beliefs about Dr. Roy. Especially the parts about how what Spencer does is basically junk science in some of his core arguments...Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 9:16 pm https://skepticalscience.com/roy-spence ... tivity.htm
Re: Climate Change & The Environment
He's cherry picking data, ignoring very simple observable atmospheres (Venus vs. the Moon vs. Earth vs. Mercury) and states that climate models assume "the climate system is in a natural state of energy balance, and that there is no long-term climate change unless humans cause it" That's just a flat out lie, we've known for quite a long time that there is long term natural climate change. Humans are just hyper-accelerating it.cradleandshoot wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 6:11 pm http://www.drroyspencer.com/global-warming-101/ I have to post this for Dr 72. C&S, do you really think that climate scientists don't know that the climate changes on its own and don't account for it in models?

Re: Climate Change & The Environment
The heat wave created the Blob -- a 1,000-mile (1,600 km) stretch of ocean that was warmed by 3 to 6 degrees Celsius (5.4 to 10.8 Fahrenheit). A high-pressure ridge calmed the ocean waters -- meaning heat stays in the water, without storms to help cool it down.
Those few degrees of warming wreaked havoc on the region's marine ecosystems. There was a huge drop in the production of microscopic algae that feed a range of animals, from shrimp to whales. The warmth caused a massive bloom of harmful algae along the west coast, that killed many animals and cost fisheries millions of dollars in lost income.
Other animals that experienced mass die-offs include sea lions, tufted puffins, and baleen whales. But none of them compared to the murres in scale.
About 62,000 dead or dying murres washed up on shore -- but the total number of deaths is likely to be closer to one million since only a small fraction of birds that die at sea wash up, said researchers from the University of Washington, who published the study in the journal Plos One on Wednesday.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/16/world/bl ... index.html
The lesson here is that a temporary regional increase in ocean temperature killed a million sea birds.
Is even a couple of degrees increase in average global temperatures a bad thing?
Are you a bunch of idiots?!?
Do you have any idea how much energy it takes to raise global temperatures by even 2 degrees Celsius?
Even such a “small” increase in temperature, which is in actuality a massive change, will wreak havoc all over the world.
For those of you who lack sufficient understanding of that, let me give you a simple example of how things can go swiftly south with even a small imbalance. My backyard pool is well maintained and usually a crystal-clear blue. However, once in a while, heavy rains arrive. The rain changes the pH in my pool and within 30 minutes the entire pool can turn green with algae because the effectiveness of the chlorine is dependent on the pH of the water. The small change in the pool’s ecosystem can quickly throw things off balance and the next thing you know, you’re spending the next few days killing off the algae.
Even small changes in our global climate can throw things into massive imbalance.
Climate change is already wreaking havoc in our world, and it’s only going to get worse over the next 50 years. We need to take steps now to prevent catastrophic disasters all over the world.

Re: Climate Change & The Environment
One last post this morning.
I stood with two Aussie Falcon 7X pilots yesterday on a tarmac in so FlA. I told them I was sorry to hear of the fires in Oz. They told me that when they arrived here in the US, they were amazed to see how hyperbolic our newspapers and media are, that the fires were arson-caused and nowhere near the size our media portrays.
A researcher called John Galtung once remarked that if a newspaper came out once every 50 years (as opposed to every second in our digital world), it would not report celebrity gossip, fake news, and political scandals; it would report momentous positive global changes such as the increase in lief expectancy.
Good things unfold over time, but bad things happen quickly. My belief is that many folks here, in their mania to take out Trump, focus only on every second's worth of bad news and amplify it to be earth-shattering. Sorry to be the bearer of good news, but life has only gotten better for humanity, and that will always be the case.

My opinion here PB that has been ridiculed and mocked by the dedicated members of the 72nd chicken little brigade has not and will never change. Our planet earth will do what it wants, when it wants, where it wants and how it wants. The chicken little brigade is unable to differentiate from what humans can control and what humans have no control over. When the chicken little brigade faithful can control things such as volcanic eruptions and earthquakes and all the other cataclysmic disasters our earth throws at us.. then I will be all ears. Until that time I will do what I have always done. When I take a long walk I will have the garbage bag in hand that I always have at the ready. My suggestion to the paranoid CLB members is to put on a fresh depends, grab a glass of warm milk with a glob of butter in it and don't worry about stuff you have no control over.Peter Brown wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 11:00 amTypical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 9:51 amSomeone said climate change caused those fires to spontaneously combust?Peter Brown wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 9:46 am One last post this morning.
