Folks! After today, forget about Georgetown. The top honor for most disappointing team so far this season is solely in Navy's possession, I think.

Something is fishy.....did they throw in the towel before the game even started, treat it like a scrimmage? When you look at the stat sheet from the Nova site, it almost looks they we have even more players dinged up or intentionally left out of the game.
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

Most likely treated like a scrimmage by resting kids for HC game this weekend (PL game). Navy has no chance of at large bid, so its easy to see why coaches likely rested some banged up kids against Nova and gave others a chance to show what they can offer.youthathletics wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 7:08 pmSomething is fishy.....did they throw in the towel before the game even started, treat it like a scrimmage? I personally dont like getting hammered. Morale must be low after a 6 game L streak. Crossing fingers they snap out of it this weekend !

The Mids got the better of it in the first 8:13, then the wheels came off.youthathletics wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 7:08 pmSomething is fishy.....did they throw in the towel before the game even started, treat it like a scrimmage? Make it, take it. Nova won 8 of 9 1st half FOs.
Nova's really good. 5 grad starters.
Navy went with the best available players. Skalniak, Swanson, Fairbanks & Tolker out with injuries.
Arline stayed back for FB practice.
When the game got out of hand, they emptied the bench.

If Amplo is not on the hot seat. Who does he let go. The Offensive Coordinator or the Defensive Coordinator. With this record some change has to happen.

Re: Navy 2023
Folks, It was bad to say the least. Only adjustment was dropping into a zone.
I would love to hear the real "agreement" between football and lacrosse. After listening to the football coaches, listening to Coach Amplo on the PODCast earlier this year, it would seems that 24 might be spending more time at football than originally planned. If somebody has the details, Please share. If AMPLO knew that 24 wasn't going to be at 50 percent of practices and was going to start missing games, why the heck has he been permitted to play and why hasn't other players been developed.
I thought the attack did a decent job tonight, they seemed to share the ball nicely and played five Attackman on the regular. 2, 14 and 9 played well early and 14 was quickly pulled for 4. then 54 dropped the hammer when the Second Man-Up unit started late in the forth.
Midfield was on the struggle bus, 32 , 12, 64, 5 and 43 struggled to create seperation. The bright spot from the first midfield was #6 with three goals. It was good to see the third midfield play in the first, third and forth quarters, 51 had a nice goal in the forth quarter for the third midfield . They played very strong , probably stronger than the second midfield for sure.
Our keeper was seeing shots from every angle and couldn't catch a break. Although the 1 v 1 fast break in the second was first rate.
I was glad to see different MIDS on the field, but it's apparent that the newbies aren't getting many REPS in practice and that falls on the staff.
The "special" players have been allowed to play "hero" ball for way to long and NAVY Lacrosse is currently playing the price.
Again with the OffSides, when the Coach running the Box sent 6 on the field !
26 on the Man-UP play ! What the heck is that. Coach AMPLO is telling his team that the best option we have for our man-up unit is one of our Defensive Midfielder ? Really Coach !
I mention this earlier in the year, Amplo is way out of his league !

The seat is probably warm. IMHO coaches at this level deserve at least 5 years for their system and their recruits to make an effect. Coach A has a winning record against that team in NY. RS had 8 seasons and won't bring up his predecessor to keep the flame wars to a minimum.
Huge mistake from my viewpoint for the dance with #24 - either on the team or not, divided loyalties suck. I would rather have not even played him knowing where we are now.

Maybe Amplo shouldn't have ever been there.

Re. Arline, it's not an ideal situation, but Navy's still a better offense when he's in there. He generates opportunities for the other players, even when he doesn't shoot. He's still developing. At Nova, it wasn't a better Navy offense without him. We can only speculate on the impact of the 2 sport compromise on team chemistry. In the podcasts both Coach & player said he might miss a game or two when dates conflict with FB. Thanks to Fri night games at home & Loyola, Holy Cross might be the last game day conflict. Lax practices will be impacted until spring fb ends.

Admitting defeat before the game even starts doesn't sound like a very military academy strategy much less that of a D1 lacrosse team, especially in a game against a highly ranked team that could turn around the season.
If the Navy coach actually did this, that would be grounds for dismissal imo.

IL seems to attribute Arline's absence vs Villanova to injury :old salt wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 12:41 am Re. Navy was down five of its starters, four of them on offense, and was looking deep into its bench. First-line midfielder Pat Skalniak, last year’s leading scorer, was hurt vs. Lehigh and suffered a long-term injury. His linemate Dane Swanson, too, has been injured. In the past week, attackmen Xavier Arline (also the football team’s starting quarterback) and Henry Tolker were injured. Defensively, they have been without Kyle Fairbanks.

Goodness gracious....did anyone see 24 or 10 go down last Friday night? I would have thought Saturday would have been a recovery/film day, Sunday off, and Monday light practice with tons of skeleton reps vs scout team showing Nova.old salt wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 3:16 pmIL seems to attribute Arline's absence vs Villanova to injury :old salt wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 12:41 am Re. I also can't blame Ross for rolling out, he took a HC position, from the man that recruited him at Duke.

Re: Navy 2023
Fan disappointment is understandable, but there is no way Coach Amplo is on the hot seat. Bad season - no doubt. But Navy can point to injuries, they can point to progress in 2021 / 2022, wins over Army ... Amplo secured the fundraising for their massive new facility. And he knows very well the importance of fostering relationships with school administration.
Side note - there is zero chance he's throwing his assistants under the bus. Orsen has been with Joe off and on for 20 years. Phipps is extremely well-regarded. They are well-paid and not micromanaged. If Phipps or Orsen leave Navy, it'll be for a head job somewhere.
Having said all that, Go Army.
