Ncaa has already indicated that host does not need to be in the tournament which opens up some interesting possibilities. I wonder if an MLS stadium like the one outside philly could host...

They announced the women's field this morning. If the men's tournament selection is anything like the women's, you better win the AQ!

The empty bracket on the NCAA site shows one team getting a bye into the second round with 7 first round games on that side of the bracket - and 8 first round games on the other side of the bracket. Makes sense - that’s 31 teams. And as for the regions, if the woman’s bracket is any indication the 1st round games will be played at those yet to be announced 5 sights (there are your regions) and just 2 sites (1 each side of the bracket) until the Final 4.

There will be four pods for the first and second round, three pods will host 8 teams for 6 games, the fourth will host 7 teams for 5 games. Pretty sure at this point it's already been decided what those four sites will be but I could be wrong on that.

Interesting development.

Per the legendary poster “DIII” - on his Twitter account.

“Some misinformation out there on the D3 tourney. Couple of clarifications: Cabrini is an AQ, not in Pool B this year. Pool B gets 1 bid, it is 100% going to Col. College. There are only 2 Pool C bids available for everyone else. Win your AQ, the 2 Pool C selections will be a mess”

I didn’t know this was the year the Atlantic East gained their AQ.

Somehow the Heartland conference received a waiver to keep their AQ even though this would be the third year without the required number of teams in their conference, so Transylvania will have another Automatic bid to the tournament...

Agree. Need to hear from DIII

With the Athletic East getting an AQ, here is my list of the 29 conferences getting AQs.

If Pool B gets 1 bid, and the tourney size is 31, that only leaves 1 at-large bid.

# Region Conf Name
1 1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (9)
2 1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (10)
3 1 Little East Conference (10)
4 1 New England Small College Athletic Conference (11)
5 1 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (7)
6 1 North Atlantic Conference (13)
7 2 Empire 8 (8)
8 2 Liberty League (9)
9 2 North Eastern Athletic Conference (9)
10 2 Skyline Conference (8)
11 2 State University of New York Athletic Conference (8)
12 3 Atlantic East Conference (7)
13 3 Capital Athletic Conference (6)
14 3 Centennial Conference (9)
15 3 Colonial States Athletic Conference (7)
16 3 Landmark Conference (7)
17 3 Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth (9)
18 3 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (8)
19 4 Heartland Collegiate Men’s Lacrosse Conference (5)
20 4 North Coast Athletic Conference (10)
21 4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (11)
22 4 Ohio Athletic Conference (10)
23 4 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (8)
24 4 USA South Athletic Conference (9)
25 5 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (7)
26 5 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (8)
27 5 Midwest Lacrosse Conference (6)

I believe your math is right.

The extra conference you have, which seems to not be on some of the previously posted resources (and dare I say, missed by DIII himself) is the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

On their website they do list their tournament winner (Benedictine) as having an AQ, so I don’t know why it was left off of the NCAA resources.

Pressure was on when there was perceived to be only 3 at large bids. Then it’s 2 bids after DIII’s tweet. Now 1 at large bid after your post.

Too much talent will miss out. Bring the NIT to DIII Lacrosse!

Nope. My tweet was correct, while the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference does gave an AQ, the North East Athletic Conference does not this year and is in Pool B. There are 2 Pool C’s.

The tournament is normally 37, right? And with 28 autobids that's only leaving 9 total pool C/B bids in a normal year? Or will it be 27/10 if that one conference finally loses their autobid status? That is rough.

Or am I wrong on everything here?

NCAA.com is where you can catch the bracket/selections on Sunday May 9th at 9pm 8-)

The Inside Lacrosse Schedule person needs to get on the ball. I know who is playing Saturday, but it’s nice to have a place to see all the times laid out.

Another great listen on the DII-DIII Podcast put out by inside lacrosse.

At large bid break downs. Conference championship breaks downs. DIII heavy.

I'm starting to warm-up to the idea that only-Conference-Winners be invited to the D3 tourney (with at-large bids, in general, only going to non-Conference teams). All the tourneys for that matter. Makes the Conference C'ships more exciting and makes the Tourney Selections cleaner, clearer.

Clearer yes, because there wouldn’t really be any selections.

As for cleaner, I would argue that 31 teams deciding who the national champion is, while not including the top 20 teams (or even all the top 10 teams), is a mess. (The opposite of clean)

Oh man, I'm not warm to that. That is like the NCAA hoops tourney back in the day where many top 10 teams wouldn't make it. Probably 15 of the top 25 teams in most year come from 3-5 conferences. There are 31 conferences!
