“An earlier version of this article and headline created an unfair impression about who was responsible for the purchase in question,” wrote The Times in its correction on Friday. “While Nikki R. Haley is the current ambassador to the United Nations, the decision on leasing the ambassador’s residence and purchasing the curtains was made during the Obama administration, according to current and former officials. The article should not have focused on Ms. Haley, nor should a picture of her have been used. The article and headline have now been edited to reflect those concerns, and the picture has been removed.”

More stellar reporting from the Grey Lady, along with more hypocrisy from former Obama minions. Man, it's been a couple of impressive weeks for "the resistance."

Re: media matters
Yes, we’ve had a terrible time watching everyone near the Trump camp plead out and flip.
I’m glad Nikki is clean on this. I kind of like her. But $58000 a month rent is crazy so she needs to downsize. We could afford that under Obama but now our government is broke, the deficit ballooning.

Good laughing emoji!!
In a self-governing society, the press is going to make errors, sometimes serious errors. It is part of the price of a free society.
But let's go back to the article, if not the poor sourcing and bad reporting. The UN Ambassador's residence should be secure and, frankly, comfortable and even opulent. We are the world's greatest power. But this is the same State Department that drove out and didn't replace numerous career diplomats under the foppish and silly tenure of the forgotten oil tycoon, who proposed cutting the State Department's budget by 30 or so percent. It's hard to square that stuff with allowing the invoice to go through on expensive drapes.
And then, in the end, there is this:

Re: media matters
The original snarky, gotcha headline doesn’t help the NYT.
“Nikki Haley’s View of New York Is Priceless. Her Curtains? $52,701.”
The headline writer should be demoted. Pretty irresponsible. It’s crap like this that gives reporters a hard time in the field and give Trump’s bs credibility.

Totally agree. But I think this is a reporting issue -- source, reporter, editor, the confirmation process: all failed here.
Tucker Carlson is like that kid who really, really, really wants to sit at the cool kids' table in the cafeteria. And can't quite get, even though he's really trying. If he wasn't such a malignant person, it would be laughable.

FoxNews is just a propaganda arm of the White House. Far beyond routine “bias”. Someone was questioning last week if the White House (Shine) is producing fox segments.seacoaster wrote:"The headline writer should be demoted. Pretty irresponsible."

Republican CNN Contributor Confirms 'Infuriating' Trump Defenders on Network Are Actually Lying on Purpose
You read that right, a REPUBLICAN contributor...
Right on Right violence continues in the Age of Donald.
"Setmayer, a Republican who has previously worked as a communications director for Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), responded via Twitter on Tuesday to a Washington Examiner article about CNN host Don Lemon claiming that Trump defenders he invites onto his show don’t even take their own arguments seriously."

This is getting a bit carried away. Why is everything friggen political or racist.....Jeez. Coast Guard member flashes white power hand signal on TV
If anyone has kids, especially teenagers, and even I did this when I was a kid....you made this sign to force someone to look, a joke, a gag, whatever you call it. Sometimes we would simply point. like the old trick to point to someones shirt to make them look down. If you are Instagram, these type of funny gags are all over the place....and yes even by non-white people.

Re: media matters
The sign has an interesting recent history.
Suggesting it was a white power symbol started out as a prank a year or so ago. Then white power people started actually using it. Whoops.
Tough to know if this guy was actually doing it thinking he would get a laugh, or if he was actually flashing it for actual white power reasons. Either way he's an idiot.
That's the thing with these pranks and memes - once they're out there you have no control over them anymore, and they might actually grow out of control. One even reached the presidency.

Re: media matters
It's the stories they DON'T cover that is telling....
Keith Ellison's, a name I was not familiar with, domestic abuse was bantered around our friendly circle jerk of issues. With all kinds of political bents (even has a Hopkins NCAA champ ) it was pointed out that the usual suspects would NOT have Ellison's abuse story. Sure enough.
None of the usual suspects (Boston Globe/Ny Times, la times, washpost, huffpost, etc, etc ) had any mention of Ellison's abuse claims. Why is that?
Not much press on Keith Ellison's meeting with Iran leaders, along with my favorite man of the year, Louis FarriCON.

Sadly, if you do a word search on the front pages of MSNBC, FOX and CNN today....notta' on Keith or Ellison. Re: media matters
So I am sitting here reading this post, having never heard of this hand signal before, and I realize that I am leaning on my left arm, with my head supported by my left hand, in, you guessed it, the exact same position as the guy in the photo. When I thought about it, I realize it is a common pose for me when I am on the phone. Is it a white power sign if you never knew about it? Am I subliminally signalling?youthathletics wrote:This is getting a bit carried away. Why is everything friggen political or racist.....Jeez. Coast Guard member flashes white power hand signal on TV

Are you perfectly cool with these 'dudes' and what they are signaling?
I get that you want to say that someone else may 'hate whites' (undoubtedly someone may) but are you suggesting that 'white power', 'white supremacy' is therefore justified?
Just asking where you come down on this.
