On the first part I don’t follow but what I’m trying to distinguish is whether you think the comp should be based on effort or revenue generated? 3/5 is a lot more work, year round, in live events than 2/3. That’s a fact. Whatever comes from sponsorship and other side hustles should be directly proportionate or bilateral we agree. But 2/3 is a lot less tennis, and frankly from a simple mathematical reality, creates more parity and allows for more upsets. Just a fact, more sets more opportunity for reversion to the mean.

WNBA was like a subsidiary. Why would they have to pay the same money? Just your moral opinion or are you making some specific legal argument? It would be a mockery of women’s rights if WNBA players got the same pay as the NBA As they neither work as much (games/minutes logged), produce equal products or generate equal revenues. If there’s some technical rule that would require it that they violated so be it but I can’t support the idea that WNBA players get the same pay as the NBA. I’ve seen some of the finances and you want to give them same % of rev fine but that shuts the league downS. It’s existence was subsidized by the NBA from the jump and you aren’t valuing that at all above zero.

WNBA was founded by Stern and owned by the NBA owners ~ same employer. Thus, same company, same job. I'll leave that up to the players and their union to determine whether back pay is warranted.

Well I’d argue a subsidiary entity is not the same company if we’re talking technical (Because every bank and attorney in the country would agree, a lender always lends at the specific operating entity) and I believe it would be easy to make he case it’s not the same job. Certainly the output is very different and here are not universal rules. I just don’t see it at all like you do it sounds like you’re making a fairly broad based moral argument. I think the WNBA would lose in court thisfast. And the NBA wouldn’t owe jack it would be on the new owners unless there was some contingent liability put into the sale contract to allow the new owners to shift the obligation to the prior owners.

Probably correct if that is even in play for a civil situation like this. It was just hypothetical anyway and you answered I just wasn’t clear or able to distinguish if your argument was codified law or “law of man” (moral argument) on the equal pay.

Naomi Osaka's withdrawal from the French Open caused much controversy:

https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/french-op ... e-n1269226

When Naomi Osaka — the 23-year-old, No. 2-ranked tennis player in the world — announced she felt she had no choice but to withdraw from the French Open on Monday, the professional tennis world only had itself to blame.

Increased social awareness of mental health has spawned something of a burgeoning movement in the sports world.

Osaka first stated that her own mental health challenges, including social anxiety and depression, have pushed her to step away. But as anyone who has been following the drama of the past few days knows, Osaka is walking because she was being pressured to speak to the teeming media scrums against her will or risk getting kicked out of the tournament.

Osaka went public right before the French Open with a statement on social media saying she did not feel she was able to take part in the tournament press conferences and that she "often felt that people have no regard for athletes mental health."

Now Osaka has stated she is “gonna take some time away from the court now, but when the time is right I really want to work with the Tour to discuss ways we can make things better for the players, press and fans.”

It’s a hopeful thought, but one could well wonder whether the tin-eared tour will work with her.

Increased social awareness of mental health has spawned something of a burgeoning movement in the sports world. As a result, we’ve seen a long overdue shift of sports organizations and leagues promoting the importance of mental wellness and in many cases encouraging players to be open with the public about their challenges. Especially in the world of men’s sports, this new space for vulnerability has signaled a remarkable culture shift. All this is only part of what makes the response to Osaka by the four tennis Grand Slam tournaments so shocking.

The initial reaction by French Open was first to post a mocking tweet, which was quickly deleted. A formal statement was then issued, signed by the heads of the organizations that run the French Open and the other three Grand Slam tournaments, stating that Osaka risked not only fines but being kicked out of the tournaments for refusing to speak with press.

Not sure what to make of all this as every sport requires its athletes to keep very busy schedules and a seemingly endless array of news conferences. Naomi is the highest paid female athlete in the world and won't the money so don't fret over that. ;)

future WTA stars trained by ex porn star:

https://dailynewshungary.com/hungarian- ... s-players/

The Hungarian media reports about the shocking assignment, but the truth is that Petra Selmeci (37) has been working in the Hungarian Tennis Association for a long time. According to Blikk, Ms Selmeci has become the chairwoman of the committee responsible for the competitions and the young talents of Hungarian tennis. As a player, she did not have a successful career, but when she retired, she started to train the young talents of Hungarian tennis. She became a member of the group responsible for decision-making, and from September, she became the leader of the branch working with the young talents of the sport. However, some were not so happy because of the decision. They said that Ms Selmeci is an ex-porn actress and that fact is morally unacceptable in the position she has been appointed to. Blikk looked her up on the internet and wrote that she was active in the porn industry between 2001 and 2005 and worked under the pseudonym Tiffany Rouge. Furthermore, she did not keep it a secret that before she started filming, she was a professional tennis player, so it is easy to prove that the woman in the movies is her. Based on the biggest porn film database, she played in at least 11 movies. Weird story! Agency promises model careers for young boys but it turns out to be porn Which category was Hungarians’ favourite on PornHub in 2019? Ms Selmeci has been teaching tennis in many clubs both in Budapest and in the country for years. But she did not want to share anything about her porn past with Blikk. A trainer who wanted to remain anonymous, however, said that in the tennis world, everybody knows about her adult movie “background”, but she is a good trainer, and her trainees are very successful. Blikk asked the former leader of the Prime Minister’s Office and the new leader of the Hungarian Tennis Association, János Lázár, whether he finds the past of Ms Selmeci problematic or not. He said that she had been a member of the leadership of Hungarian tennis for a long time, and he continues to rely on her professional knowledge in the future. He added that they were not dealing with the private life of their employees, and they would not like to change that policy. It is rare but not unique what Petra Selmeci did. There are some sportsmen and sportswomen whose homemade video has been leaked on the internet. Furthermore, some chose to become an actress, for example, Japanese snowboarder Imai Melo (32) or Dutch gymnast Verona van de Leur (34).

Watched the Coco-Kerber match. Coco kept sliding on the grass and I wonder if her shoes had worn out soles (next time she needs to bring a second set of shoes in her bag, just in case). She did not get the proper leverage on her ground strokes and kept hitting to AK's strength which is her cross court/angular shots. In the post game conference AK was very gracious in complementing Coco. On to the quarter finals.

First Aussie to win Wimby in 40 years. Great backhand. Great to see WTA without the screeching. Pliskova started out slowly, perhaps having too much nervousness. But she came back strongly and made it into a good match.

Elena Vesnina's semi-final win

Post by OuttaNowhereWregget »

A favorite moment from a few years back. Elena Vesnina's semifinal win on her way to her last and most prestigious WTA title. We used to call her "Hiya Girl". You'll hear why from this clip.

Daria Gavrilova wins 1st WTA Title

Post by OuttaNowhereWregget »

Nice moment from WTA past. Daria Gavrilova wins her 1st and only WTA title (to date) at the now defunct Connecticut Open, previously a tune up event for the US Open. Always a treat to watch any athlete or team win their first title.

US Open has arrived but it's not quite the same without Venus & Serena Williams along with Simona Halep & Sofia Kenin. Several top male players will be missing as well. For some reason the tournament has not gotten the publicity it normally gets every year. Perhaps it's the loss of these players that is the reason. Still, it will be fun, I'm sure.

Halep is through to the 3rd round. Correct on the other three players. I’m glad the Williams sisters are not in attendance. They’re both in their 40’s this year and it’s time to move on. I’ve had quite enough of Serena’s boorish, sore loser on court behavior. Now her coach is making the pathetic excuse for her that she is unable to express herself on the court. Please. Time to go.

I stand corrected. Simona initially said she would not be in it. Glad she changed her mind. So far, it's been a good tourny for WTA.

A great match. Glad to see Simona back on the tennis court where she belongs. The ESPN announcers references her health problems which she continues to battle. Did you notice how Elina wears her wedding ring on her finger?

In tennis circles there had been some demand for both the ATP/WTA to either suspend all activities over the Russia-Ukraine dispute or to disqualify Russia from tournaments.

Ukraine's Elina Svitolina threatened to refuse to play against players from Belarus & Russia but was persuaded to play. The result: https://www.news24.com/sport/Tennis/WTA ... t-20220302

She will give her winnings to the Ukraine army.
