"Hereford coach Sal Picataggi said there were no excuses for the poor play at the faceoff ‘x’ but noted his team was without its usual specialist."

Hereford wins 2 draws in this game.....with a half time score of 7-1 and a final of 12-7, not having their starting fogo cost the Bulls their season.

The 3A game between Westminster and Northern should be a great contest. These teams scrimmaged at the start of the year, but a lot has changed. I'd give a slight edge to Westminster, however Northern's dismantling of Towson was impressive. In 4A, I think Howard will have their hands full. They play a zone and that can be problematic, but I think Severna Park has too much fire power and runs away with it.

Predictions:
Westminster 15 - Northern 12
Severna Park 16 - Howard 7

Has anyone pushed Severna Park this year? Is the 4a down or is SP that dominate?

SP got doubled up by Spalding, and eeked out wins over Severn and Broadneck:

In what was a real battle, Westminster sneaks by Northern 9-8.
Glenelg goalie has a huge day and gets a little help from a pipe shot in the last minute to seal the deal.

Westminster survives a one-goal game with Northern to give them the 3A crown and second consecutive state championship. They also complete an undefeated season.

Severna Park took until the 4th quarter to put some distance between themselves and Howard. They turned a 6-6 4th quarter tie ball game into a 9-6 victory for their 4th in a row. So much for early season prognostications that SP would be down this year.

The Hereford job is an excellent opportunity for a good coach. Whit Morrill, a W&L AA middie as well as a classmate of mine in first, second, and third grade, initiated the Bulls' rise to power in Baltimore County about 20 years ago. He left to coach in college, yielding to legendary Towson University coach Carl Runk, who, retired to Northern Baltimore County, led the team to some state championships before retiring from high school coaching. Brian King then took over before moving to a private school. The most recent coach inherited a powerhouse that had supplanted Dulaney and Towson as the dominant programs in Baltimore County. I have read nothing about his departure, but Baltimore County prefers to have coaches who are teachers, preferably in the school in which they coach. I don't know whether he taught at Hereford. I know he was not a teacher at Owings Mills, where I replaced him in the late 90s.
When I was coaching in Baltimore County, I know Steve Turnbaugh, father of the recent Hopkins goalie, was involved with the Hereford program as either the jv coach or varsity assistant. He developed Hereford into a football power, and I assume it was no coincidence that their lax teams featured fit, strong, conditioned athletes.
Their is plenty of lax talent in the York Road corridor although lots of it ends up at private schools. I would imagine that the rosters of the MIAA schools not located in AA County are still made up heavily of students whose home schools are Dulaney, Towson, and Hereford. It seems to me that Hereford hangs on to a higher percentage of the students zoned for it than do the two that are closer to the Beltway. Maybe location is somewhat of a factor. At any rate, the Hereford job looks quite desirable.

Whit is also an awesome SAT prep tutor these days (helped one of my kids add a few hundred points to his SAT). I believe that he was "helping out" at York College before Childs took over there.

Like many jobs today- going to need someone that can keep the AD happy and doesn't mind the phone calls from parents.

I'd expect a current Hereford assistant to take the job.

But I've been wrong before.

He is held in very high regard among his former players, rings in '96 and '00.

He left to coach in college, yielding to legendary Towson University coach Carl Runk, who, retired to Northern Baltimore County, led the team to some state championships before retiring from high school coaching.Coach Runk didn't have every players name down, but he sure could scheme an offense...rings in '03 and '08

Brian King then took over before moving to a private school. King had control of the dynasty, winning rings from '09 to '13, losing his last game in '14 to one of the best public teams ever, Kent Island.

The former HC was a teacher, but in a different county.

IMO, Turnbaugh has been the one consistent - he is one of the most decorated HS coaches in MD...his approach to defense has made all of the difference.

At any rate, the Hereford job looks quite desirable.Kids that start out in The Zone, tend to finish out at HHS. There have been less then a dozen impact players that left Hereford and had success at a MIAA.

I’ve heard through the grapevine that Sean Todd who is the old Gerstell coach could be coming to Hereford.

BREAKING: Organized sports competitions can return as soon as Feb. 8 in Anne Arundel.

That means the private school winter sports season is soon upon us.

That makes complete sense. Backed by facts and science.
Much like his cancellation of the Turkey Bowl a week before the game.

I'm not asking questions. I'm just quickly leaving the meeting and telling the kids that there's practice on Monday.
