Surprised by how low scoring the Ridgefield/Greenwich game was with how porous the Tiger defense has been lately; is Prohaszka back?

No. Not back. But Ridgefield's zone has been getting a little better lately. And today, for the first time without Prohaszka, they managed to hold their own at the X. Normally they have been no better than 25%.

Well Staples has certainly announced themselves for real now with a 16-2 thumping of Wilton. With Kosakowski back in goal, and Sale back in the lineup, they are firing on all cylinders. The junior class is special; Best is a monster attacking from every part of the field, and Howard just broke the Wreckers single season goal record. I think they have a real shot at the title on Friday.

Darien dispatched Ridgefield with ease, but I've not been impressed with their focus these past few weeks. Much like Brunswick at times on the prep side of things, they've made a habit of coming out hot, and then they just seem to expect the other team to roll over and let the game fade out. In particular, the defense has been sloppy, and Demopolous has been solid but not playing quite to his lofty reputation lately (on current form I'd say Kosakowski has arguably been hotter). The drop in intensity nearly cost them against New Canaan, and although Ridgefield didn't have a FOGO to really go on a run and fully capitalize on the momentum swings, Staples certainly does.

Tomorrow's game should be a good one. And... States start tomorrow as well:

Love the CIAC bracketology. Darien gets Prep, Greenwich, NC and Wilton in their bracket. Staples gets Ridgefield.

The rankings/ratings are pretty bad. And, strangely, they're very open about the dullness of their Ratings blade. at least there's transparency.

Cheshire is also a solid team in the upper bracket.

Nice win for the Falcons today. They've put a scare into plenty of teams in the FCIAC this year coming up short when it came to the win. Not today. Well done.

Great win for Ludlowe, does anyone know if that is their first ever victory over New Canaan in program history? Or really any of the big FCIAC programs with maybe the exception of Ridgefield or Staples before they improved as programs. Ludlowe definitely let a couple of games slip out of their hands this season that they should have won, good to see them get a victory in their biggest moment.

For New Canaan this must be gutting, especially to have to lose your last 2 games of the season in the conference and state playoffs in double overtime. Buzzeo isn't on the hot seat, but I don't imagine many people around New Canaan will have good things to say about this season. The outlook for next year is also a little bleak with how many seniors will be graduating this season.

Others have also made note of Fairfield Preps increasing tuition in the recent past and how that has resulted in decreased enrollment numbers that could benefit Fairfield Warde and Ludlowe. I've also always believed that a good football program is a rising tide that lifts all boats in terms of boys sports programs across and entire school with the exception of other fall sports, and Fairfield Ludlowe is benefitting from that at the moment and likely into the near future. Both Warde and Ludlowe had good years in sports all around, Warde just won a FCIAC baseball title and their co-op hockey team had a great season as well. Things seem to be looking up for Fairfield public schools all around.

Ludlowe beat Staples in Zinn’s senior year at Staples. That’s all I know of.

This COVID year seems rather weird across the state (save Darien). Seems like a lot of kids came out of the woodwork at many schools. Growth from Freshman/Sophomore to Junior/Senior could be size, talent, or combination but hadn’t been unveiled until post quarantine. Makes it unpredictable (again except for Darien.)

Stuck around NC to watch the game Saturday after the girl's FCIAC finals, a fantastic win for the Ludlowe program. I do believe it is the program’s first win ever over New Canaan, they’ve had wins over Staples and Wilton before but don’t remember them ever previously beating NC, Darien, or Greenwich. Very happy for 1st-year head coach Steve Swett, he’s put together a great season so far and got a statement win. Ludlowe’s D looked very impressive once again. It was 6-5 NC at the half, Ludlowe then allowed an early 3rd quarter goal before shutting NC out for the last 20-25 minutes. Goalie Murphy Hoey made a lot of saves and a few tough ones. His brother Finn (LSM) was a force on GB’s and in transition, while the junior midfield duo of Mcarthy (4g) and Keeser (2g 1a) generated enough on offense to pull off the upset. They also dominated contested GB’s to help give more possession balance while losing a lot at the faceoff X.

New Canaan was completely underwhelming and didn’t look prepared/eager to play in the cold rain on Memorial Day weekend. This particularly applies to the offense. Canet had 0 goals and I believe 0 assists. Caione played solid but often settled for taking contested 12-15 yard shots on the run, frequently not hitting his target. Augustine and Stiles were the only other guys that seemed willing/able to beat their man. Augustine did get cleaned out on an inside roll midway through the 1st half though, which seemed to deter future aggressive dodges from him.

Agree with Fritz about Buzeo and the New Canaan outlook going forward into next year. Not on the hot seat, but this year was a disappointment and on paper, next year’s team will be worse. I’m certainly not an expert on the pipeline coming through of younger NC players but their FOGO Shin leaves, as well as the majority of their offensive production. 2 attackman graduate, as does essentially the entire first line midfield that ran yesterday (Canet, Caione, Appelt). Augustine on O and freshman Dylan Stephans on D will have to be the anchors on this team next year but I’m not optimistic about their prospects.

Congrats again to Ludlowe on a well-deserved win and excited to see how they fare against Cheshire on Wednesday.

Staples-Ridgefield should be the game of the day. Though... the last one wasn't so close...

If you're talking about the last Staples-Ridgefield game, the final was 12-11. Ridgefield had a 3 goal lead in the fourth but couldn't hold it, partially due to their weakness at the X. With the absence of Prohaska plus Colsey's injury, Staples should win this one.

Looking forward to the Ludlowe/Chesire game tonight, should be a good fight between two equally matched teams.

If any year was a year to say it, this one is. Man, if Fairfield was unified, that would be bad ass team. Ludlowe and Warde both good, that would be an animal if combined.
