Wow. PhillyLax or a similar website has Malvern ranked as #1 in the area.

Phipps and Cottle have a good class. This is the same senior class that won the JV championship over top of Loyola Blakefield 2 years ago.

Think there's a good chance we see at least one "upset" today.

Congrats to John Carroll’s basketball team for pulling off what some are calling “the greatest upset in Baltimore Catholic League history” by defeating undefeated St. Francis in the BCL championship tonight 64-62 in OT.

Yes, the Dons dominated...Dons defense overall was terrific, and they dominated at X and in transition, riding and clearing, the more athletic team overall IMO, certainly today.

Personally, I was rooting for the kids I knew on both teams, but particularly Jack Webb in net for the Dons. Excellent game by Jack, who is headed to Hopkins. I've known Jack since he was 9...incredible hands even back then! I liked the Gilman goalie as well who saw a ton of shots, he's got very nice potential, committed to UVA as a junior. Loved seeing Jimmy Wilkerson's kid get a goal. So many familiar names!

Otherwise I'd have been just rooting for Gilman!

St Mary’s takes out Loyola 9-7.
Spaulding knocks off St. Paul’s 11-6.
Severn squeaks by MSJ 9-8.
McD almost doubles up BL 15-8.
Gilman @ JC tomorrow.

The Dons game is a shocker. LB looked invincible, fast, skilled, athletic vs. Gilman. Then they turn around and lay somewhat of an egg at home on Sr Day...What the heck? Not taking anything away from the Saints. They were the better team, and clearly wanted it more. They were ready to play! Maybe too many folks in the community singing their praises and talking about titles. Dons are good, but this is the MIAA. If you are not ready to play against the MIAA opposition shame on you. coaches need to address this quickly. I put this one on the staff.

Sheesh, anyone who has been a long time watcher of MIAA lax knows that teams play up or down on any given day, upsets are nearly inevitable. And this is a season that is anything but predictable in its underpinnings...so, enjoy the ride.

It's also been my experience that the long bus ride to Annapolis can contribute to a team playing flat. A team needs to make a deliberate effort to overcome that. Of course, that works both ways, driving from Anne Arundel County.

Definitely!
However, in this case, the road warriors came out hot.

Something odd is going on. After a 50 mile yellow school bus ride from Annapolis to Baltimore it is sometimes the HOME TEAM that then comes out flat. In 2019 it happened when SM played at St. Pauls, at Gilman, and at BL and now it has happened again at Loyola in 2021. Makes me wonder: What is going on on that bus?

Yep, had that backwards. I'll plead PTSD from trips to Weems Whalen.

Haha, many SM fans and former players plead the same thing....

Not all schools are riding on a bus. Some schools are asking parents to provide transportation to the game. Gilman @ JC today at 4pm. Game of the week. I like Gilman big after the debacle at Loyola.

Was not shock with the outcome. St Mary’s still needs to clean some things up but still top 6 playoff team.
