End of a Philly tradition

Post by 8meterPA »

Sad to hear that the Katie Samson lax festival is no longer. For those in the Philly area, the early spring festival was always circled on the calendar as the unofficial start of the season. What a great 20 year run with some incredible top 10 national match ups every year.

Not that I am aware of. I'm hopeful that the community and/or schools will pitch in and figure out a way to have a spring lax festival. It really was a special event that kids grew up with and looked forward to each year. Really were some marquee match-ups in the day. I'm sure if njbill is lurking he would agree and sure attended quite a few himself.

I don't frequent this part of the forum, so I didn't see this until now. I'm glad you posted it & crushed it's over. From what I've heard it's partly been logistics...Radnor HS has had a lot of construction going on as well so I think that contributed in addition to the pandemic and the passing of her father Peter Samson in 2019. There was a time where I couldn't go a day without seeing one of the festival t-shirts. It was such a special event that brought in so many youth kids who eventually grew up to play in the festival.
