Re: Landmark Conference 2022
Catholic will have their hands full on Saturday as they go up against #4 St. John Fisher on Saturday. Great experience for the players playing at Tufts and competing in the NCAA tournament.
St, John Fisher is loaded. The have 9 grad students on their roster. Last year, they had 8 players named to the USILA All-American team (one first-teamer, two 2nd team, two 3rd team and three HM. All but one returned for this year. They are experienced and deep at every position.
Key match-ups will be Mike McShea vs. arguably the best face-off guy in the country, Joe Post. If McShea can grind out 50% and limit the possessions by St JF, that will be a plus.
Another match-up will be the Catholic defense's performance against the attack line of St.JF, featuring All-Americans Nicholas Miller and Ian Evans. Tynan Hillery and Matt Clohessy will have to be at the top of their game against those two. And Nic Pezone will be challenged by the St, JF offensive firepower.
All-American middie Jack Mulvihill will test the Catholic defense as he is a great dodger and feeder and St. JF has many other weapons in their midfield cast.
St. JF has a really stout defense headed by All-American LSM Roger Panara and D-pole Kyle Rochester so the Catholic offense will also be tasked to play at their highest level.
On paper, it looks like St. JF is a 7-goal favorite but, if Catholic can keep it close into the 4th quarter, they have a chance.
Good luck to the Cardinals! The Landmark Cardinals!

Re: Landmark Conference 2022
Takeaways from the Catholic-St. John Fisher game.
We knew going in that #5 St. John Fisher was an elite team and they certainly showed it yesterday, excelling in all phases of the game. Nicholas Miller exhibited why he is a first-team All American as he rocketed in 6 goals from the outside. The middies (O'Donnell, Mulvilhill and Galina) scored on efficient shot selection and distributed the ball very well. The defense, as advertised, harassed the Catholic shooters if they tried the one-on-one moves that had worked successfully against most defenses during the season. I was impressed by Rochester and Panara and how they just bodied up and were on the gloves effectively with their sticks. Also middie Matt Jeffries who was all over the field. The St. JF defense played so well together, put together an excellent slide package and basically took Catholic's two best goal scorers out of the game (getting one goal on 19 shots).
Catholic came out jittery and tentative in the first quarter and at least started to make some headway in the second although they had no answer on defense for the St. JF shooters on offense. That said, I thought that Hillery (5 GBs and a caused turnover), Clohessy and Dulin played their asses off and did a stellar job against a top-notch offensive unit.
I got very hopeful as the third quarter developed. On offense, Catholic looked to find some rhythm with their middies moving off ball and creating some passes for open looks. They scored five unanswered goals to bring the game within 4 goals at 12-8. I really thought that it was close enough for Catholic to make a run. On defense, Catholic went to a zone which seemed to confuse the St. JF offense for most of the quarter.
Give credit to the St. JF coaching staff as they made some adjustments between the third and fourth quarter and totally busted the zone, scoring 4 goals in the first two minutes of the quarter to effectively put the game away with an 8-goal lead.
Danny Fitzgibbons led Catholic with three goals. Cam Dunn and Connor Pierce added two each. Tynan Hillery proved that he should get an HM spot on the All-America team. Nic Pezone also deserves mention for some of the stops he made during the game. And also a mention of the extreme effort by Mike McShea for grinding out each faceoff against the best faceoff guy in the country, Joe Post.
Catholic graduates a ton of contributors this year but the performances by several of their underclassmen bodes well for the 2023 season. They represented the Landmark Conference very well yesterday and we should all congratulate them on a superb season. They finish 13-5 with four of their losses to NCAA tournament teams.

Re: Landmark Conference 2022
USA lax came out with an All American team,Not one person from conference on it not even HM. Hopefully USILA gives the Kids recognition
Re: Landmark Conference 2022
US Lax's AA team is a joke. They had players listed twice. USILA is what matters.
Re: Landmark Conference 2022
The USILA is usually more based on actual performance and is also more inclusive so I would expect to see at least one or up to three Landmark players on their list. Hillery for sure at defense. Maybe Crowley or Yake at attack but that position is loaded this year as some teams will place two of their attack unit somewhere on the first three teams or HM, e.g., St. John Fisher, CNU, Bowdoin, maybe Tufts. And guys from mid-range conferences like Jude Brown from St. Mary's, Luc Swedlund from Stockton and Rick Smith from Illinois Wesleyan deserve some recognition at attack.
Re: Landmark Conference 2022
Here is an interesting analysis done by a poster on the strength of conferences after this year's tournament will have two teams from the Liberty Conference vying for the national championship. Landmark becoming a stronger conference compared to past years.

Good question...what do the numbers say the Power Rankings are for conferences this year? NESCAC, Liberty, Centennial, ODAC?
I agree...all 5 Centennial teams were better than the THREE ODAC tournament teams.
A quick look at the Laxpower ratings (average power rating by conference):
Liberty: 91.39
NESCAC: 91.28
Centennial: 87.29
SUNYAC: 81.66
E8: 79.18
MAC-C: 79.11
ODAC: 78.78
Landmark: 78.32
MAC-F: 76.95
Now, whether the overall average, average dropping top and bottom team, average of top 50% of teams, etc. are the best metric is up for debate. But I think this mostly passes the eye test: Liberty and 'CAC in a league of their own, then Centennial, then everyone else. ODAC being more on par with the Landmark and MAC-C than the Centennial is an interesting result, though.

Re: Landmark Conference 2022
be curious to see who will want him. Maybe back to D1
Re: Landmark Conference 2022
Isn't that the way it always is? Drop from D1, make a name for yourself to get back to D1?
