York announced coaching staff additions of Ryan Drenner (Towson 17’/PLL Cannons) and Shane Brookhart (YCP 19’) to join Coach Childs and defensive coordinator Matt Whitcher (YCP 18’/PLL Waterdogs).

These will be great additions with minimal adjustments needed. Brookhart is a product of Childs’ tutelage, and Drenner has previously served as an assistant at York under Childs in the 2018 season (during Whitcher and Brookhart’s years playing at York).
I would imagine Drenner will take on the role of offensive coordinator.

I had heard these were in the works and it appears to be great additions to the staff. Hearing good things about the first few practices as the new pieces seem to be fitting in very well.

York’s story just keeps getting better and better. If someone wanted a template on how to build a program go speak to Childs. York better hope they can keep him

Childs is a great coach and a better person. Everyone I speak to about him simply raves. Their staff additions are spot on and pretty good evidence that York is serious about keeping him.
I am hearing that the team looks good and the defense is big and fast. Looks like there will be some help attack and the face-off X from freshman. This year the team look pretty good and if things jell and they stay health they could make a long run in the playoffs

Great read. Glad to see the strong players returning, even happier to see the underclassmen showing their abilities. The level of talent the younger Spartans displayed at the alumni game was remarkable.

Got my lacrosse fix by catching the first half of the York-Lynchburg scrimmage today. Keep in mind that I am a fan of the game and a fan of Division 3 and appreciate how good both teams are but they are neither are "my team" so I don't know who the starters are and didn't really keep stats but they kept score on the score board and when I left with 10 minutes left in the 3rd quarter it was 9-7 York. I definitely could tell that Lynchburg switched goalies out a couple of times in the first half and heard a lot of players telling other players what to do ("Cover #", "Move up") so that would indicate that new guys were getting time in the game on both sides (though that may be typical, I don't know I never played but it seemed like vets were teaching rookies).

It was fun to watch but I thought it was pretty sloppy on both sides. Very fast paced and a lot of risks taken i.e. the defense getting a turnover and then chucking the ball down the field to an offensive player very quickly so that the pass is off and it goes out of bounds, a few instances of behind the back crap that misses the mark and ends up as a turnover. Very...Premiere Lacrosse League which I watched a bit over the summer and in my opinion for every jaw dropping successful play there were 5 sloppy turnovers.

It's Fall Ball. This didn't count. I'm sure these teams will tighten it up. If they don't though, discipline will win the day against them...if you can keep up the fast pace.

Anybody catch the whole thing? Anybody see how the scrimmages with Dickinson went?

Dan Kaplan (Inside Lacrosse) was there and has a bit of insight and scores on his Twitter feed. Only small mentions of when starters came off, but had consistent score updates. Apparently both games were close with York “winning” on the scoreboard in each instance.

Said both Brandau (Dickinson Goalie and Maryland xfer) and Jack Michael (York goalie) had strong performances.

I believe he also said Inside Lacrosse will have recap / breakdowns published this week.

I saw all three scrimmages and the scores were all close

Yor beat Dickinson by a couple
Dickinson beat Lynchburg by 1 or 2
York Beat Lynchburg by a goal or two
it was fast paced and a little sloppy but it was a fun day overall

In my opinion, Dickinson was the biggest surprise as I thought that York and Lynchburg were going to be good. Dickinson was big and strong I thought their second goalie was better the Brandau who struggled at times.

York started a lot of upperclassmen, all six guys in their first 2 middie groups were seniors, their entire defense from last year comes back but they have to find a solution at LSM for the loss of Tyler Nation. The attack is on the younger side starting a junior, soph and freshman and the first attackman off the bench was also an attackman. But, with only 7 attackman on the roster this was going to happen.
The goal was Jack Michael and they only play two goalies and the other two were banged up a little. Although I have heard that the freshman who has just come back from injury has looked really good in practice.
The faceoff spot looked very good for York and I think that the Freshman will be able to help out this season.

The offense looked good and smart lots of goal scorers. The freshman Mayer is the real deal and will probably be an opening day starter. the close defense is very good at the top and dominated a good dickinson team but when they put there second group in they were exposed a little and that is what made the score a little closer but, all in all a great day of fun lacrosse at a very high level and it looks like York will be very good and very deep as they were missing 3 or 4 kids who will get time in the Spring

Great news. Get a pipeline to up North going, and start tapping some talent from an elite New England boarding school.

Looks like another strong class, love how he understands what he needs and responds to recruiting to his needs. I have heard that he is very excited about his 2021 class as he addressed several needs with talented kids in every position

Indeed, it’s great how he sees these kids and knows how they’ll fit right into the program. It shows, year over year, when they lose their statistical “horse” to graduation, the next man up fills that void and continues the ascension.

Last year, Coach threw out so many different packages at attack. Having seen Mayer play, I know he’s got the stuff. But does the freshman get the start from the very onset?

Washington & Lee will have a game vs Catholic under their belt coming into York’s first contest, so they’ll have a rhythm and be feeling pretty good (assuming they win of course).

I need to see the 22’ roster before I try to make my lineup predictions. Do you know if Mason Smith and or Chandler Schmidt have moved on?

Mason Smith is back but Chandler Schmidt is not. Hear some rumblings that Dylan Wolf will be back after taking the fall off. So it seems that they will pretty loaded on defense and in the midfield. They are a little young at attack so you may see one of the position flexible kids move around a little but I think Mayer checks a lot of boxes for the offense and he played very well against Lynchburg in the scrimmage.

Hmmm. I thought Wolf being back was a lock, I sure hope he is. Having all three starting close D back is huge. Tons of experience as a 6th year, 5th year, and a true Senoir respectively. Toss in the DI transfer and they should be able to smother teams.

I’m very interested in seeing which LSM emerges as Nation’s successor.

Also, I think we could see Dembeck getting more looks at attack. He showed flashes there last year, and brings DI quality experience. That could prove advantageous, should there be a younger cast out there.
