AC is obviously hoping to take a few steps back from the lacrosse world with the combination of two positions...bet they are hoping to get a candidate that is mediocre compared to JT
I think a lot of schools do that, it allows them a window to make the coaches faculty and not staff. Denison just did it.

Casey does it at Tufts now, as did my coach (and the AD too, badminton, gave me an A) many, many years ago.

Yeah, this is pretty common....especially at the D3 level.

Of these early NESCAC commits, what's the normal rate of these kids that actually end up where they first commit? Do the coaches have a certain number of kids they can tag, within certain bands, like the Ivy League, so that they all get accepted? (Just curiosity from someone with minimal experience with the NESCAC). Are there standards across the conference, or does each school set it's own parameters?
It's either a thoughtful comment or smartass sarcasm. Learn to recognize the difference.

I'm not an expert, but have some recent, limited experience in this area, so I'll take a crack and ask others to correct any misstatements.

Potential NESCAC recruits fall into three general bands based on their pre-read essentials (grades/scores/writing sample): A-band (top ~25% of admitted students), B-band (middle ~50% of admitted students) and C-band (bottom ~25% of admitted students). Since NESCAC schools have different admissions rates, the band cut-offs vary by school. In normal years, coaches may bring in several A-band PSAs per class, a few B-band PSAs and one or two C-band PSAs. Based on my understanding, COVID gap-years reduced the number of B and C-band slots available for the 2022 class.

In mid-June, NESCAC coaches ask their recruits to provide grades/scores/HS profiles/writing samples. The coaches turn those over to the admissions department along with an indication of how much support (aka "juice", "slots/tips/nods", etc) a coach is willing to provide. The admissions department returns a positive or negative pre-read. With that in hand, the coach can offer to support the PSA's ED1 application with the same level of "juice" that the coach indicated to admissions during the pre-read. Coaches are careful to note that the commitment is not a guarantee of admission, but the coaches with longer tenures at their schools are typically batting over 0.95 in that department.

The majority of the July 1 NESCAC commits are B and C-band PSAs and, unless those PSAs have legal/academic trouble or are poached by an Ivy, they generally matriculate. After the first week in July, many of the B/C band slots are used and the coaches move on to A-band PSAs.

TBH, all these players are very solid. Wesleyan, Midd and Williams players stand out to me. Raba is an unbelievable recruiter, grabbing some west coast elite level talent. Also heard through the grapevine that the Cards are stacked with talent on both sides this upcoming 2022 season. Midd grabbing midwest players is unusual, but I'm sure they're all standouts. Midd always tough to beat come playoff time. NESCAC lax > all.

That would be a very good hire. He has built a very strong program pretty much in isolation out there, at least as regarding proximity of other D3 schools. Hiring someone based on their actual success as a coach is always a good move.

Some interesting symmetry there - Coach Thompson booted from Amherst, takes the OC job at USAFA (just a few miles north of CC) and Coach Woods (presumably) leaves CC to take the job at Amherst.

My kid and I spent a couple hours with Coach Woods earlier this summer - seemed like a great guy who knows his stuff and has done a fantastic job putting CC on the map over the last few years.

Would be a really solid hire for a lot of reasons. Hope it’s true.
