How ‘bout we scrap this whole North/South thing and just go with the top 12 teams?

Good idea.

Probably wont happen until AQ's are added to D II and im not sure we are close to that option

now that II & III aren't being televised why not scrap the big weekend built around
DI. Hold a DII tournament at an actual DII site, make it a 4 team tournament and make the first round
a cross-over by region

It won't happen. D2 is committed to "regionalization" as part of its identity. The focus is on "access to championships" for teams from across a sport's footprint, not getting the two best teams in the national championship game.

On the women's side, where the Midwest has become the strongest region, this year's title was decided when Lindenwood beat Indianapolis in the quarterfinals (Midwest Region final). Lindenwood's eventual opponent in the championship game was Queens, which lost at home to Indianapolis by TEN GOALS earlier in the season.

If you follow D2 across all sports, you know that this usually happens in football and basketball too. The championship game rarely features the two best teams, because in this division that's not the priority.

AQs may be possible, but would be difficult with the number of conferences adding up to pretty much the number of slots.

And a Southern team has won the chip five times since the advent of regionalism in DII men’s lax.

In D2, no sport that selects less than 48 teams to postseason has an AQ. There would need to be around 216 teams before the bracket expands to that size. The women are a little more than halfway there and the men are about one-third of the way. Not saying the D2 lacrosse championship committees can't or won't decide to include AQs but it's probably not going to happen for a long time.

This might be cliche but, Give credit to every team this year whether they made the tourney or not. Every coach, and players made so many sacrifices for this season to happen. This was easily the gauntlet for everyone! hopefully by the time 2022 comes around it will be back to normal.
