Yes, news on Yale fallball has seemed conspicuously absent from the lacrosse press. It seems Cornell has been getting a lot of attention; good for them and well deserved. A wonderful European vacation (scheduled by my wife) meant I could not attend the Reese mid-October scrimmages. I'll be delighted to have the likes of Brandau, DeMuth and Stuzin play four years in New Haven rather than spending a season playing in Denver or South Bend (knock on wood). Last season, so many good young Elis showed the potential to become VERY GOOD, while the Ivy could again be a fiercely competitive gauntlet of a league. I too am really looking forward to the coming lax season.calourie wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 12:34 pm ...
Yale lacrosse news has been hard to come by. I'm quite curious about the roster and remaining eligibility of many on the team whose status has been affected by the Covid interruption. I know a number players took a semester or more off to preserve their status, and perhaps we will have to wait until the beginning of the next semester to know where everyone stands. Anyway, I expect the Bulldogs to be very good and can't wait for the season to come around.

That's a good call -- promising player who showed well last spring.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 8:33 pmI was thinking Christian Johnson. His name came to me. He’s good. Really good. Yale plays a fast-paced attack and takes a lot of shots (which is tons of fun) but that means plenty of pressure on the defense. Last year it seemed like teams were able to take advantage of Yale's shorties -- Yale also had youth at the LSM position -- but hoping that the ssdm position will be shored up which might remove some of the pressure on the close defense. But I've never been a great X's and O's person (as a player or youth coach) so other than to note that last year the defensive midfield seemed on their heels, I don't have a good sense of what it would take to tighten things up.Lax3 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 7:47 pm Too quiet on the Yale front ... what do the Eli followers think is required to improve a very weak defense? Re: Yale 2023
Monfort played some SSDM last season, was very good on the clear and scored a nice goal versus Saint Joe's. Both he and Hackler got playing time as D middies for the US U-19 (which became maybe U-21 due to the pandemic) team that recently took the gold; I think that international experience should have been good for both. Yes, Christian Johnson. After the likes of Glicini, Ty Warner and Alessi, the 2019 Elis did not have nearly the same level of SSDMs (and that 2019 D really felt the loss of 2018 senior poles Keating and O'Connor), so hopefully 2023 is the year that position returns to being a real strength for the Bulldogs. At LSM, Stuzin in 2022 showed flashes of high quality, but was inconsistent (he was excellent in the opener versus Nova, and I thought he did he good job on Sam Handley in the regular-season Yale OT win). Offense should be excellent in 2023, but can the defense improve on 2022? I think so.The Orfling wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 7:09 pmThat's a good call -- promising player who showed well last spring.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 8:33 pmI was thinking Christian Johnson. Oh, and in the Yale Bowl, the Elis just scored 52 points in the first half v Brown.

Alessi and Warner were difference makers. Christian Johnson made a favorable impression on me.FannOLax wrote: ↑Sat Nov 05, 2022 2:16 pmMonfort played some SSDM last season, was very good on the clear and scored a nice goal versus Saint Joe's. Alright, my son's 10yr old/4th grade psyche may be riding on this.
Did Brody Coleman matriculate and is there any chance he will be playing this spring if so?

The sleepy Yale thread is awakened. Brody Coleman is/was a Yale commit who should be there, but lax news out of New Haven is tough to come by and your son's psyche is more important than giving him an accurate answer.Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Tue Nov 15, 2022 2:34 pm Alright, my son's 10yr old/4th grade psyche may be riding on this.

Wish I had something concrete for you! Best I can say is that Coleman's twitter and Insta handles both reference Yale lacrosse (and the twitter handle references class of '26) so I think that's a good sign.Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Tue Nov 15, 2022 2:34 pm Alright, my son's 10yr old/4th grade psyche may be riding on this.

Re: Yale 2023
I can confirm he certainly appears to be enrolled at Yale, unless he came and left and nothing to suggest that.
Re: Yale 2023
As Brody was a lax middie, top 3-sport athlete in high school, I thought he'd be a strong candidate to get PT at SSDM and/or two-way midfielder.

Re: Yale 2023
Thanks to all for feedback. I basically lost focus on Yale a bit after Reeves and a buddies son (Donald Ahrens) left 2-3yrs ago. Know you've got a lot of stud Sophs and Juniors, but as a carryover league (and becuase I don't usually do fantasy sports and have no idea what I'm doing) we are building for more than this year.
I've also instructed my son to focus on awesome academic schools. We've got a Loyola and Denver, repsectfully, but the rest is ND/GT/Hop and ivies. If Hobart was part of the available teams to select from we'd be balls deep in Hobart players and probably having fun getting waxed.

Re: Yale 2023
It's a great event, and a showcase of Ivy football. I was a bit disappointed to see the UBS sponsorship logo at midfield. The two schools have a combined endowment of around $90 billion... you'd think that they could give the money side of things a rest for a day.

A timely assist from the Quakers.faircornell wrote: ↑Sun Nov 20, 2022 6:54 pmIt's a great event, and a showcase of Ivy football. I was a bit disappointed to see the UBS sponsorship logo at midfield. Farfromgeneva, you are still in draft mode and looking for "sleepers" you might look at Yale's Johnny Keib? He was running with the first midfield by the end of the season, as I recall, and also got some time with the man-up unit. He had 8 goals and 5 assists on efficient shooting (about 20 shots) but with the graduation of Brian Tevlin (54 shots) some more shots might be coming Keib's way. Full disclosure, he's only 8th in the returning scorers coming back for Yale, but I suspect he may be an important piece in the midfield.Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Tue Nov 15, 2022 9:10 pm Thanks to all for feedback.

Yes, many thanks to our friends in the City of Brotherly Love! To beat Harvard head-to-head and win an Ivy title is always sweet, and a third title in five years is even more worthy of savoring — congratulations to Head Coach Tony Reno, his assistant coaches, and the 2022 Yale Varsity FB team. Wish I could have been there — looked like a lot of fun in Cambridge.10stone5 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 20, 2022 7:00 pmA timely assist from the Quakers.faircornell wrote: ↑Sun Nov 20, 2022 6:54 pmIt's a great event, and a showcase of Ivy football. I was a bit disappointed to see the UBS sponsorship logo at midfield. The two schools have a combined endowment of around $90 billion... you'd think that they could give the money side of things a rest for a day.
