Patriot League 2023

Post by gymman1031 »

The big story in 2022 was BU winning their first tournament title and making their first NCAA Tournament. Going into 2023, one of the biggest questions is if some of the programs whose coaches were, in 2022, still(at least somewhat for some) in their "early" years with them can show serious improvement both in wins and overall performances. The four programs that apply to the above are, in no order:

Lafayette- Coach Pat Myers will be in his fifth season.
Holy Cross- Coach JL Reppert will be in his third season.
Colgate- Coach Matt Karweck will be in his fifth season.
Navy- Coach Joe Amplo will be in his fourth season.

IMO, HC will remain the same, Laf will win 3 games, Colgate just not sure, if Navy can get an attack kid that can draw a double and then kick out to those shooters at mid could be much better.

Next year, the PL will be wide open with no clear cut favorite. The Hounds lose a lot of talent at nearly every position. I can really only speak about Loyola. I just see a ton of graduation. Young guys will need to step in to starting slots day 1, at nearly every position.

It seems like Lehigh is losing alot with most of their defense being seniors, along with Kirst and Schelling deciding to transfer. Is Sisselberger coming back?

BU, Loyola and Army will be 3 teams that continue to perform.

Navy has a pretty talented class coming in, has plenty of depth at SSDM . F/O has been up and down since Brady Dove and Joe Varello.....after they changed the rule to SNG. Only lose 3 Sr high minute players.
Attack - Cole (17/21 for 36 points in 2022)
SSDM - Fratt
F/O - Jarosz (53/110 FO)

Army - Will be interesting to see how they do w/o #20.
Loyola - Always competitive in conference
BU - their offense style should continue to flourish. Lose an attack, midfielder and goalie.
Lehigh - TBD
Lafayette - Rising with the tide, still going to be an uphill fight.
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

I sure hope that JL Reppert can get something going soon at Holy Cross.

Don’t sleep on Bucknell. Feds needs to get the defense a little more improved but they had a lot young impressive offensive talent that returns.
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, Malcolm
See Jesus, Judas; Caesar, Brutus
See success is like suicide

Let's see if Keith Euker now being an assistant at Holy Cross helps the Crusaders rise. Keith did a nice job as the volunteer assistant at BU this past season.

Is HC fully funded yet? I don’t see much of a road for them to compete until they drastically improve facilities and become fully funded. Who would want to go there compared to other PL schools?

Lehigh should be better than expected. Sometimes losing Seniors is a good thing. There are a number of defenders that are ready to step in and they have two capable goalies that have been waiting for their time. The offense will look very different next year with the OC moving on to Hopkins. This is good news as they won’t be as predictable and as long as they can stay healthy they’ll be deep even with losing Kirst and Schelling. Sisselberger is back and has two years left after RS freshman and COVID year. I’d be surprised if he ever went somewhere outside of Bethlehem.

So what kind of offense are they going to run that won't be so predictable. Please share your lax IQ with us.

Anyones guess - but probably not just “beat your man to force the slide and find the open man”.

Mike Phipps has returned to Navy as an assistant. Don't forget that, when Mike arrived at Navy and Georgetown for his previous two coaching stops, things immediately got quite a bit better. Will we see deja vu this time around?

All I can say about the Patriot League is how Army's Nichtern is tearing up the PLL. Probably rookie of the year. You just couldn't guard that guy - nightmare for opposing defenses. Glad he graduated

Interesting. PLL defenses can't contain Nichtern but Navy's D did.
