Coming in as IL's No. 3 recruit and the top-ranked middie in the Class of 2020
Man, did they miss in that class.

Lower rated Hugh Kelleher is a much much much better
midfielder.
Here's the incoming class for 2020:

2020 Incoming Class — Five Stars

1. Brennan O'Neill | A | St Anthony's (N.Y.) | Duke (HIT)
2. Owen Hiltz | A | Culver Academy (Ind.) | Syracuse (HIT)
3. Cole Herbert | M | Calvert Hall (Md.) | North Carolina (MISS)
4. Brendan Grimes | A | Boys Latin (Md.) | Johns Hopkins (MISS but injuries)
5. Michael Gianforcaro | G | Culver Academy (Ind.) | Princeton (MISS but stuck behind an HM senior tender)
6. Jack Stuzin | D | Gilman (Md.) | Yale (HIT)
7. Eric Malever | A | Woodward Academy (Ga.) | Maryland (HIT)
8. Jackson Bonitz | D | McDonogh (Md.) | Navy (HIT)
9. CJ Kirst | A | Delbarton (N.J.) | Cornell (HIT)
10. Dylan Hess | M | Ponte Vedra (Fla.) | Georgetown (HIT)

70% of the top 10 became impact players. Most of them are the best or among the best players on their respective teams. Not sure I'd say they missed this class?

Moreover, compared to the other only ranking system I'm aware of (NLF), they did a hell of a better job:

1. Brennan O’Neill, attack, St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) / Team 91 Crush / Duke (HIT)
2. Xavier Arline, attack, Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.) / Team 91 Crush / North Carolina (At Navy, fun to watch but not a game changer MISS)
3. Eric Malever, attack, Woodward (Ga.) / Thunder LB3 / Maryland (HIT)
4. Sean Cameron, midfield, Bishop Guertin (N.H.) / New Hampshire Tomahawks / Princeton (MISS, second line middie)
5. Jackson Bonitz, defense, McDonogh (Md.) / Crabs / Navy (HIT)
6. James Ball, faceoff midfield, Chaminade (N.Y.) / Long Island Express / Yale (MISS)
7. Cole Krauss, defense/LSM, Delbarton (N.J.) / Leading Edge / Duke (MISS)
8. Russ Maher, attack, Mount Sinai (N.Y.) / Long Island Express / Virginia (MISS, played 4 at virginia, transferred to JHU)
9. Casey McDermott, attack, Brighton (N.Y.) / SweetLax Upstate / Johns Hopkins (MISS)
10. Nathan LaLiberte, faceoff midfield, Pinkerton (N.H.) / New Hampshire Tomahawks / Bryant (HIT, I guess?)

Man I don't think IL is perfect, but their rankings are the best that we get. Recruiting HS kids is an inexact science at best (even the far better funded football and basketball recruiting services screw the pooch on a regular basis). So yeah, they'll miss. But if there's a better source for ranking lacrosse kids, aside from personally watching every kids highlight tape which I don't think anyone can do, I'd love to hear it.

I believe Cole will be fine. Just wanted to say it’s a top 100 not just a top 10. Ty and those guys are hit or miss. I ran the numbers and a player is more likely to make 1,2,3 team AA if they are not in the top 100. Definitely not in the top 50. Sone years you end up with really good classes. The 2016 HS class was loaded.

Ty Xanders Tweet: @LIUMLAX’s 2x honorable mention All-American goalie Will Mark just entered the transfer portal, sources tell @Inside_Lacrosse. The 6’3 NorCal native had a 10.64 GAA and saved 55.7% this spring. In 2021, he led all of DI with an average of 17-plus saves per game

Sure - but there are a lot more kids outside the top 100 than in it. Most it also depends upon playtime, development, etc. I think where people get all turned up is when they see a guy like Gavin Adler and they're like why wasn't he highly ranked (he was an unranked 4 star). But the rankings aren't for future performance - it's literally a ranking of where kids sit at the timepoint measured.

So like Adler may not have been as highly ranked as others at first, but he definitely developed more than others who were ahead of him.

Feel like this is a constant conversation on these boards, but hell...it's the offseason and nothings really going on of interest lol.

I have heard it is point in time and also how they (Ty and the guys) expect guys to do in college. It’s not easy. Add in the cronyism and it makes it less authentic. Not enough data points against like competition which can only be measured consistently overtime. I hate to make the soccer comparison but that sport does a better job of peer to peer evaluation. Anyway, Cole is a good player. He would be a good pickup for lots of teams.

It’s hard to explain. It’s all about development in that sport.

Wow Rumor has it LIU SSDM and Captain Jake Murphy is hitting the portal to. That's 3 of LIU's top players now transferring. Murphy is underrated I can count on one hand how many times I saw him get beat this season. He plays lockdown D and very athletic. Should be a two way but coach Wolf didn't use him on offense at all. That's Lacalandra, Will Mark and Murphy leaving . What a shame LIU had talent with everyone coming back next yr. Now the coach is gone and 3 of their top players transferring. Could be more coming who knows.

you're hilarious. you posited that wolf left only for money but wouldn't reply why you know that is. now you question the coach's methods (because you're a lax savant), but are what? surprised players may move on as the coach does?

I was told by someone close to the team it had to do with money according to what Wolf told them. Maybe he just said that to them IDK. If I made it that I know for sure I apologize. Oh and I did say he's a good HC but when the OC quit he had to take over the offense and was very conservative. Go look at each game and LIU had the least amount of shots. He ran a slow down kill clock offense. They did have a very good defense but no transition offense just dump and run down shot clock before taking a shot. They got more aggressive the end of season into NEC tournament. Never said I know everything either just stating my opinion and what many watching the game felt to including many alumni. Again I do think Wolf is a good coach. Also I'm not surprised players are leaving I said it's a shame because they have some talent and a good chance to win the MAAC. Oh why do I need to tell u my source? Definitely not happening I'm just mentioning things I hear that's it. I also heard who the next coach might be. He's a successful D 2 coach. That's the rumor right now and no I won't tell u where I heard this either. I'm not stating facts I'm saying what I'm being told by some good sources. Could it be he wasn't offered more money from LIU because this D 2 coach is who LIU really wanted? Hmm could be IDK but we shall see if this is who gets the job.

I don't think a D1 lacrosse scholarship player can also play another D1 sport anymore. Isn't that why Bernhardt had to transfer for his one year of football eligibility? He could have definitely made the Maryland football roster.

Jared talked with Maryland football HC and decided to go to a different school. Currently Dante Trader on Maryland football team first committed to MD as a lacrosse recruit and then a few weeks later as a football. At the moment he has said he plans to do both sports this coming season. He sat out lacrosse this past season.

Bernhardt tried out at Maryland or at least attended some practices and then talked with coaches about his chances of seeing the field. After this discussion he transferred. I am not sure if you can be on a lax scholarship and play another sport.

Cole Herbert to Rutgers? He had a Football offer there......could do both.
And Xavier Arline at Navy played both football and lacrosse this season.
