ND-Drexel
Re: ND-Drexel
drexel is legit. a legitimately good team. and... notre dame is just a step (or two) above. anything can happen on any given Saturday but... notre dame is winning this one. (seems silly to even be writing this. so many of these opening round games are pretty obvious.) SU-G'town, Denver-Loyola, etc., these are substantially less obvious.

Depends on what the coaches decide.
Will Drexel speed things up, they can and can go deeper.
The game will be at high altitude.

Re: ND-Drexel
The 2010 regular season game between Drexel and Notre Dame, played at Vidas Field in West Philly is still one of my all-time favorite college lacrosse games.
The game was played mid-week and started late in the afternoon. At that time, the Irish were undefeated and ranked #3 in the country while the Dragons had at least 2 or 3 losses and were ranked #20. By the time of the opening face off, the stands were packed and several hundred people were seated on the hill opposite the scoreboard.
The game was very competitive from the beginning with neither team being able to get more than a one goal lead. Kevin Stockel had one of his best games as a Dragon, scoring four goals, with his last one tying the game at 6 with less than a minute to go in the fourth quarter.
The two teams exchanged possessions in overtime and with less than 45 seconds remaining, the Dragons had possession of the ball at the ND end of the field, just in front of the score board. The Dragons Scott Perri put the ball in play and as he was dodging towards the goal from the corner, the Irish defender slipped giving Scott a clear path to the goal. When one of the other Irish defenders slid to cover him, Scott passed the ball to a wide open freshman Robert Church who promptly put the ball in the back of the net as the entire stadium exploded.

Voelker’s first season.
They beat five top ten teams and almost made the NCAAs as an at large.
Re: ND-Drexel
Why is this game being played in Denver?
Re: ND-Drexel
Can Drexel win Faceoffs? My guess is no. Therefore, Drexel has to have productive possessions vs a really good defense. ND is a strong contender to finally win a title. There weakness for years has been the offense gets in scoring droughts. Drexel need this to happen to hang around deep in the 3rd quarter.

If Koita can at least create scrums out of the faceoffs,Mr3Putt wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 5:42 am Can Drexel win Faceoffs? My guess is no. they stand a decent chance to keep things fairly even,
good wing players for Drexel.
Again, one key,
how do these teams acclimate to the altitude ?
Re: ND-Drexel
Koita and Gallagher have met up before in the CAA when Kyle was at Hofstra. In 2018 Koita won 12 of 21 faceoffs versus Gallagher in the one game they met. Granted that was a long time ago, but he did have some success against him. And if Koita does have success against Gallagher, Corrigan will quickly switch over to Charles Leonard, who is an animal too.10stone5 wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 9:08 amIf Koita can at least create scrums out of the faceoffs,Mr3Putt wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 5:42 am Can Drexel win Faceoffs? I am mostly interested to watch what Tucker Durkin does with his defense to stop Kavanaugh. Sean Quinn is tremendously physical and has had a great season shutting down each opponent's top attackman. But can he handle Kavanaugh's quickness and creativity?
Should be fun.

Sean Quinn is your cover guy.
They’ll be very physical with Kavanaugh, as you would with Ryan Tierney in CAA play.
George Grippo is a very good short stick takeaway specialist, so he’ll be the trailer on Kavanaugh coverage.
Lock down Will Yorke also, he’s been on a scoring roll.
Let the other guys beat you.
Re: ND-Drexel
Agreed. Quinn is an insanely good cover guy and Grippo is one of the best SSDMs in lacrosse. It’s going to be a fun game to watch.10stone5 wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 8:49 pmNo choice.Henpecked wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 9:25 amI am mostly interested to watch what Tucker Durkin does with his defense to stop Kavanaugh. Re: ND-Drexel
I honestly don’t see any obvious 1st round games.
This looks to me to be one of the more competitive
tournament first rounds.
Even Monmouth could hang with UNC for a while.
Certainly this game is not obvious.
Looks to me like the #8 seed game, #5 seed, #6 seed
and #7 seed are the most competitive games.
Re: ND-Drexel
UNC will crush Monmouth. MD will beat UVM handily. duke will beat high point easily. uva will beat bryant easily.

Re: ND-Drexel
Monmouth does not have one player that could make the UNC roster. This will get ugly quick. The rest of the games there is potential for some to hang around. HP will play Duke and hang around for a while. Vermont will win faceoffs and not fear MD. Va will speed things up in the third qtr and pull away.
