UNC-Monmouth
UNC-Monmouth
Virtual bye for the best team in the country and an nice opportunity for Monmouth to extend the season.
Re: UNC-Monmouth
Breschi will play many in the fourth quarter
Re: UNC-Monmouth
Looks like Chris Gray will probably end up breaking or come close to breaking UNC's single-season points record against Monmouth. The current record holder is Bruce Ledwith, who had 81 points in 1973.
He is on a pace to potentially break Joey Sankey's all-time record of 229 points next year. Pretty good considering he would be doing it in only 2.5 seasons at North Carolina.

Chris Jastrzembski's pre-game analysis
Monmouth v #1 North Carolina (Saturday, Noon)
#1 North Carolina: There's not much to be said for the Tar Heels. As the top seed in the Tournament, North Carolina has been led by their high-powered offense in 2021. They're tops in the nation at 17.08 goals per game and lead the country in offensive efficiency at 40.9% per Lacrosse Reference. Chris Gray is the elite playmaker on this team, but he's got a very strong supporting cast as well. And near the end of the regular season, their depth got stronger with guys such as Connor McCarthy and Henry Schertzinger stepping up. Continue to pile up the score sheet and it should be a breeze.
Monmouth: The MAAC champions are one of three tournament teams that did not play any non-conference games with the other two hailing from the Big Ten. There's a bit of mystery for all three teams and how they really stack up nationally. With that being said, the majority of the MAAC isn't known for scoring a ton of goals. The only team that scored double digits in all of their games was Marist who played in four of them and lost the last one in the MAAC Quarterfinals. But if could be the defensive side of the ball that gives the Hawks a shot. Andrew Geison's unit that features close defensemen Chris Hervada and Conor Tuturice along with long pole Dillon Smart need to play the best game of their lives. Goalie Noah Rode has recorded goals against averages below 10 in all three of his full seasons he's played in and leads the nation with a 7.80 goals against average. If the defense locks up, the offense plays smart and capitalizes on however many possessions they grab, and FOGO Matt Soutar makes it a dogfight at the face-off X, it could be a closer game than expected.

this UNC stadium is gorgeous. Did a very nice job with it. Penn State should take note. No portapotties in the middle of the sidelines.

The North Carolina freshman goalie is amazing. Fifteen saves and an assist on that crazy field-length clearing pass. Wow.

Very good all around effort by UNC. Carolina goalie was excellent but it was the defense which made sure he didn't have to go out of his way to look so. UNC offense was well oiled and ready. Chris Gray was outstanding, William Perry as well. Kudos to Monmouth for hanging tough in a game that got out of reach early. Clearly outmanned they scrapped until the final whistle. Nice to see lacrosse played that way.

Pretty obvious why Johnson wanted out, he was never going to see the field again barring injury

he did look good in year 1. ohio state will be benefactors if he wins the job and has it.
several folks railing on him for portal entry should grow up. he should've pressed pause on that (and this week's announcement), but he's a young man and will live and learn. so in a way, maybe the (small world) blowback is good, if unintended.
krieg riding high. unc will be tough.

When and how a kid enters the portal is nobodies business and the timing could be for any number of personal reasons. Hope he does play well at Ohio St. Only one goalie can play and 3 years of sitting is not something to look forward to. Re: UNC-Monmouth
Playing goalie is the hardest position by far, both mentally and physically. There are a lot of talented D1 goaltenders that never get much of a chance between the pipes.
Re: UNC-Monmouth
People don’t realize that the only reason anyone knows about what happens in the portal is because someone involved with access leaks it to Xanders. It’s not public information to anyone except for coaches. It’s not like Johnson is making a public declaration when he puts his name in there.flyerfan17 wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 3:49 pmWhen and how a kid enters the portal is nobodies business and the timing could be for any number of personal reasons.
