Insiderroll in comparing conferences stated ACC tops and Big Ten And Ivy right behind with bottom half of Ivy dragging behind. Clearly Yale, Cornell, and Penn top half and Dartmouth bottom with Brown/Princeton/Harvard bottom half. No Ivies played meaningful games in 2021 but in the covid shortened 2020 both Brown and Princeton beat UVA, the NCAA champs in 2019 and 2021. I do not think Princeton and Brown are significant draggers

Is Brecht going to let any of his own recruits play next year? He's sending a very loud message to them.

There is no way the returning Scarlet Knights can be happy about this.

If the Rutgers kids can't beat out some incoming D3 low end D1 kids, they probably shouldn't be there anyway.

I am not sure that I 100% agree with this thinking. Every successful coach looks to recruiting as a means of making his team more competitive. The portal has just become another form of recruiting.

Saying that the returning Scarlet Knights cannot be happy about these transfers is the same as saying the returning Scarlet Knights cannot be happy about the incoming freshmen class. Recruiting is recruiting.

Competitive coaches ask their players to compete for playing time or get out of the way.

Maybe that is overly simplistic and doesn't account for egos? But if the goal is to be a part of a winning team, you want to compete against the best.

Copying others is the highest form of flattery. BB is in the B1G as is JT, who leads the charge in the transfer process.
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

I get what you're saying but I don't really think it's the same thing. I'm trying to put myself in the eyes of a player already on the team. A recruit is a guy who committed to your school from the beginning and is going to work/grow/develop his whole career as part of that program and as a student at that school. These transfers are only going to Rutgers now because they want either want another degree or more playing time or whatever else. Some of these are great reasons—to be clear I am not against transferring as a concept. But I can easily see how a guy on the team would not be thrilled by the idea of someone parachuting in at the end of their college career to fill out large portions of the starting unit. If a freshman comes in and takes your spot—that's how the cookie crumbles. Just feels different when it's a grad student who's been at another school for 4 years.

Just more proof that it’s a business & any coach telling your kid he cares about him it complete BS! He only cares if you can help him win

I will say in all fairness this really doesn't bode well for BB's recruiting acumen out of HS and the lack of depth on the team as a whole but he's obviously got a plan and he's sticking too it

This is really the flip side of early recruiting. Tillman was a “pioneer” in early recruiting, and now that early recruiting is no longer available, he is now among the most aggressive pioneers of exploiting the transfer portal. It’s not surprising that his direct rivals are following suit.

Tillman’s a great coach, but not all of his pioneering efforts have had a good effect on the game. Indeed, his style of slowing down play and wearing down opponents’ defenses with grotesquely prolonged offensive possessions was probably the single most impactful factor that finally got the shot clock instituted. For those who think a shot clock is a good thing, should note that the college game thrived for well over a century without a shot clock.
