2022 Bracket
Re: 2022 Bracket
Aint happening in D2 - that is the model they use to keep expenses down. Several years ago there were just two regions, and then you are more likely to get differing matchups.
But two regions in the current setup are composed of just two conferences each. In the East region, you have the ECC and NE10, with a total of 21 schools, and in the Atlantic region you have the CACC and the PSAC with a total of 24 schools. Combine that with the fact that the CACC is one of the two weakest conferences (along with Conference Carolinas) in wlax, and the Atlantic region is just a rehash of the PSAC tournament in reality. And in the East region you have just one non-NE10 school (Mercy from the ECC).
The South region is composed of four conferences (CC, GSC, SAC, SS) and 35 schools but only two conferences are represented this year as Mount Olive fell short this year of making the region (but did last year when the field was reduced to three teams instead of four). The GSC does not yet have a competitive enough team(s) to make an impact.
The Midwest region is the one that works the best - you have five conferences (GLIAC, GLVC, GMAC, MEC, RMAC) and 32 schools. You also have teams from 3 of the five, with only Indy and Lindenwood from the same conference.
You can certainly make the argument that the regions are imbalanced in number of schools represented and need to be recomposed. But I think the original distribution of conferences into regions was partly made in terms of which conferences had the best teams as well as a certain compactness for the parts of the country that are longtime lacrosse strongholds. And growth since then has been largely outside of the East and Atlantic regions...

PSAC tournament de ja vu
TBH though, I would take this over the former North/South region format.

Yes, I know all that. I’ve been following D2 for quite some time. Does not mean the model should not be changed.RedFromMI wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 8:35 amAint happening in D2 - that is the model they use to keep expenses down.
