Picks and Predictions

Post by wlaxnut »

(Inspired by LaxGuy17)

Who do you think will make the final four? Who will be the eventual champion? Who will be unexpectedly successful this year? And any other predictions you’d like to make.

National Champion: Maryland

Final Four: Maryland, UNC, Syracuse, Notre Dame

Most Improved Team: Ohio State

Non ACC or Big 10 conference teams that will make some noise: Loyola, Georgetown, Stony Brook

Here are my too early predictions...and lest anybody think I have a rooting interest in the final two, it actually hurts to include them!

National Champion: Syracuse
Final: UNC, Syracuse
Final Four: UNC, Syracuse, UMD, Virginia

Non ACC or BIG10: Loyola, Stanford, Stony Brook

“‘West Coast lacrosse is here and can compete against the best teams on the East Coast, and hopefully USC and other Pac-12 teams will show that as well,’ (USC coach) Munday said.”

I like USC. But I find this comment/prediction by their coach to be hype. Until they actually beat “the best teams on the East Coast” in The Tournament, this is all just a lot of blather.

On paper they had a good record last year, but I agree with you. My first reaction was..overrated team projecting a bit....

FWIW

Champ: UNC
Finals: UNC vs SYR
Final Four: UNC, SYR, NU, Penn

3 insurgents: Penn, Colorado, Stony Brook

One total wildcard: William and Mary (I am biased)

Agreed. West getting better, more good teams (see Colorado, USC, Denver, Stanford) but not as deep as East Coast Powers yet. Good for the game but need to see a couple statement wins before I get on the bandwagon.

Glaring oversight to leave Alyssa Parrella off this list. She tallied 85 goals in 19 games for Hofstra last year. She also chipped in 20 assists and 22 draw controls.

Every once in a while faceguarding backfires, like the time Navy tried to faceguard BC's Sam Apuzzo and she went off for 9 goals.

Apuzzo was best I have ever seen beating a faceguard. Last year you faceguarded Kent, slid early to Apuzzo and hope Arsenault didn’t kill you.

IMO, faceguard really should be used used only when there is a clear top threat and a huge drop off to 2nd & 3rd options...gets the defense out of sorts when it’s used. Coaches sometimes can overthink and over coach....

I’ve seen the faceguard work to perfection in certain cases, as you have written.

I agree with 8meter, look at the championship game last yeat when BC face guarded Erica Evans and shut her down but opened up the field for Grace Griffin and Brindi Griffin.
