Re: Goalkeepers
BU Terriers heading to the frozen four have 4 gks on the roster. One of them has played every minute this year. If a college hockey team has 4 gks, then surely 4-5 is appropriate on a lacrosse roster (where gks serve penalties after all). When I coached HS lacrosse, a common concern was the gk getti...

Re: NESCAC
I would venture to guess some of those LL kids were strung along in the recruiting process at some of the NESCAC schools they are now beating...karma IME, your guess is not correct. I know a bunch of kids playing in/committed to programs in both leagues and AFAIK this did not happen to any of them....

Re: ISL
Not necessarily lacrosse related: I do a lot of work at the wealthy public schools outside of Boston, the “W” towns, etc… Recently, I visited Sebs and RL. I had never been on these campuses before. I am a huge advocate for public school lax but the environment on these two ISL campuses was so super...

Re: TV Broadcasts/Announcers/Production
Yes, the fact that so many games are viewable now is amazing. I'm old enough to remember being out here on the West Coast, and my only source of lax info was a short list of scores in the Sunday New York Times at the library. And I walked miles through snow to school too! NY Times covered lac...

Re: TV Broadcasts/Announcers/Production
There was a discussion on antother thread about announcing, and yesterday I watched UMD/Rutgers WLax. The male PBP announcer said Player Advantage while the female color said man-up. She also said man-to-man defense, when it was clear that the PBP was avoiding that term. As the game wore on it beca...

Re: Way too early Final Four
Expectations might be higher as each year (for the last 3) brings in 5th year ringers. That's kind of where I was going - I mean, I thought the '21 team (with Sowers) was going to be unbeatable. And yes, they made the final four but got destroyed by the Terps in the semis. Yes, MD was very, very go...

Re: What's with all the "Power Play" nonsense on ESPN this year?
Brine made a head called the PL77 for defense. It was a bigger head and it did not give at all. Perfect for jabbing attackman in the ribs. And it did not balls down. Problem is you really could not cradle and protect the ball too much. Back in the day defensemen did not do all that much clearing or...

Re: What's with all the "Power Play" nonsense on ESPN this year?
I believe the limit of four longsticks started in 1990. Back in the wooden stick era, middies used to keep their sticks a little longer than attackmen. I’m not sure when the length of shortsticks was made officially between 40 and 44 inches. STX (and perhaps other makers) also had varying head widt...

Re: NJIT
I'm getting around to watching the DI games that I could not watch on Saturday. NJIT was a bit of a flashpoint in the DIII blogs I normally frequent. I just watched the VT game and I respect a good showing on the road v VT, a team and coach I have a lot of respect for. I'll be rooting for NJIT going...

Re: What's with all the "Power Play" nonsense on ESPN this year?
Carc is an outlier. I have been to 20-30 college hockey/lax games this year (since Oct 2023) and the programs and announcers without fail used "first year," as do almost all of the streams I watch. Nope, he's not an outlier, might be that way in the little circle you're operating in but c...

Re: What's with all the "Power Play" nonsense on ESPN this year?
I think it is because it is gender neutral. The term "freshman" has been eradicated from any feed I watch (hockey/lax), and several networks use "player up" instead of "man up" as a graphic. I don't agree w/it obviously since it is all men playing, but that's libs for ...

Re: Army 2024
Interesting behavior on the Army bench. So much for "close-order" discipline. They appear to be another bunch of lax bruhs. Nothing wrong with that, per se, but let's take them down off the public encomium pedestal, huh? Want respect for service to your country? Earn it. Chorus line dance...
