Re: Cornell 2024

I thought this forum would appreciate the new award given out at my son's high lacrosse team's season banquet last night: The Mario St. George Boiardi Award. I think it's cool that a random school in Colorado has this connection to Cornell lacrosse. (I help the team with stats, but I am not involved...

Re: Cornell 2024

From an outside POV, I just don't think Cornell could overcome the personnel losses to graduation and injury on the defensive side. The defense did get better late in the season, but 47th in adjusted defensive efficiency is not a tournament caliber defense. The offense was obviously tremendous, but...

Re: Cornell 2024

I understand and appreciate your passion for Cornell lacrosse. I hope your only sentiment that resonates with Coach Buczek is your last one — can’t wait for next year. If he endorses your other complaints, then he is not the coach we have come to respect. You can only control your own team and your...

Good thread from Lacrosse Reference on Cornell v. Yale qualifications: https://x.com/laxreference/status/1786821590006571412?s=46&t=1C1MZleHqqoA4NsGOUnhaw Here’s an excerpt: “Yale has 204.2 QW points; 203.7 for Cornell. Yale has a -17.3 bad loss factor; -17.4 for Cornell. These are virtually ind...

Re: Cornell 2024

In the last 9 quarters + overtime, Penn has held Cornell’s normally prolific offense to a total of 13 goals. 13 in almost two full games. Wow. (The outlier was the first quarter of the regular season game in which Cornell scored six goals.) There are always things to improve, but I don’t think Corne...

Re: Cornell 2024

They just put first half stats up. Cornell is winning the stats (I know that doesn’t matter except scoreboard) except for saves: 10 for Penn vs. 5 for Cornell.

No doubt. He’s already had several saves that an average goalie would not make.

Re: Cornell 2024

A couple of notes on goalie play: First, I feel bad for Tully who gave up three goals (not really his fault) and had zero saves. He wasn't spectacular in the few games he started, but he was solid. Goalie is such a difficult position. You never know when we will need him to step in. Second, Knust se...

Re: Cornell 2024

I liked that the team didn't go crazy in celebration at the end of the game. Winning the regular season Ivy League title outright is a huge accomplishment. But that reaction tells me that they've got more/bigger goals in mind.

Re: Cornell 2024

In terms of goals allowed per game, Harvard is only second to Penn in the Ivy League (and behind Penn and Princeton according to Massey's defensive rankings). Harvard's Instagram account heralds their close defense as creating long periods of shut downs of their opponent's offense. Goalie Christian...

Re: Cornell 2024

Boys, time to focus on Harvard. What seems to be getting lost in the defensive stats is how much improved our pole unit has been. They are playing very solid, less penalties, clearing the ball well, slide rotations on time. Very happy to see the upward trajectory of this unit. This might be a must ...

Wow! I did not realize that. For me personally, I think home/away is overrated in terms of impact but the data doesn't lie.

Congrats to both teams for putting on an absolute show for all lacrosse fans.
