Re: Hobart 2024

Bravo. My favorite post on this thread. And you can't tell me that everyone on a 50+ person roster is equally motivated and dedicated - so yeah, trim the fat if there is fat to be trimmed and in doing so, reward the correct approach and hungry attitude. And if some freshman is sad about not getting ...

Re: Hobart 2024

Lots of bits an pieces here. Interesting comment on the broadcasting duo - hadn't thought of that. I have always appreciated that they seem to know a lot more than other school's "local" crew so it makes it seem more professional. But it is a good point that "professional" may me...

Re: Hobart 2024

I get it - but therein lies the issue "...but how about posting a few W’s like us washed up guys did [against other small (D3) schools in not-so-desirable locations that could not recruit better players than we could], during our tenures?" I just feel bad for the players.

Re: Hobart 2024

I did not catch the Richmond game but from what I heard, that team was very very good - maybe more organized and polished than any other team Hobart has faced this year? So that was going to be a long shot. Any slopiness or coaching misses just made it even harder. If you look at the team's record g...

Re: Hobart 2024

Perhaps the most important line posted here was " Up until 130 on Saturday we were all excited about the performance..." Its true. Thye held their own against Cuse (but made a few sloppy mistakes) and if Saturday had been the win everyone thought it would be 3/4 through the game, the team ...

Re: Hobart 2024

I am not sure I understand any of your response (aside from some Hobart history). In short - all coaches need to change, adapt, do things differently. Or go. I've written this before - Hobart is never going to out-recruit schools with: higher caliber academics, higher caliber lacrosse, larger studen...

Re: Hobart 2024

As much as the players seem to tense up when they have a lead (something I blame the coaches for the same way kids tend to grip their sticks too tight for fear of making mistakes and being punished), the coaching staff has their own version of panic. They shorten the bench when they get nervous. Hob...

Re: Hobart 2024

Only saw stats from 'Cuse game - couldn't catch the livestream - but it sounds like the guys played loose up front? That freshman got a hat trick? And Datellas played like we know he can? It seems like they are coming together up there. Remember that UMass made Barthelme a priority last year and bas...

Re: Hobart 2024

I've read (and posted) on this thread many times about how critical ball movement on offense is for this team. They likely don't have great one-on-one match-ups against stronger teams so they have to feed cutters, make the skip passes, etc. Maybe it was just a weaker opponent that had them playing l...

Re: Hobart 2024

And just to pile on here, the coaching staff absolutely wants Hobart to play against high caliber teams AND the A10 has a handful of schools that may be more attractive destinations than Hobart - so the schedule is full of games where the Statesmen are the underdogs. A10 (I am guessing on the academ...

Re: Hobart 2024

I don't know what is meant by "time for a reboot." What is a re-boot other than a new staff? Would a new staff reboot the type of / caliber players you are able to recruit. That is the sticking point. I think the players at Hobart love the school and the lacrosse tradition and embrace the ...

Re: Hobart 2024

Maybe this is lax 101 but one of the goals I caught last week was a big (predictable) wind-up from Delano from about 20 feet out that froze the off-ball D and Patterson (? #11) snuck in to the near pipe for the feed. pass and catch and score. Can we place an order for more of that?

Re: Hobart 2024

Only caught pieces of the Robert Morris live stream but liked the young guys on D and at the face-off. That first year fogo should make Shea's life a lot easier - they seem to have the same engines. midfield must be banged up with the new faces they ran out there. Offense won't get away with all tha...

Re: Hobart 2024

We may need a team of therapists to solve the 3rd quarter sphincter pucker that keeps happening (or do other coaches just have amazing halftime pep talks for their players?!?). But Hobart seems to do better with more guys flying on and off the field. Looking back at the VT scrimmage - and maybe Verm...

Re: Hobart 2024

the theme on Sunday is the same as it has been - players gripping their sticks too tight, afraid to make mistakes. Colgate was more poised, more physical, more focused and more relaxed (fresh off two big-time games) - but Hobart had the yips. Missed ground balls, missed catches, not enough off-ball ...

Re: Hobart 2024

Brodad it would be great to get a recap if you have chance. Sorry to miss it. I don't doubt our offense, but it's the defense I'd like to see gel. Both Yale and Fairfield are great tests. Anyone have information on Colgate? I think you can follow the twitter feed for game updates - hobartlaxfans

Re: Hobart 2024

Vermont has 2 freshmen starting at close D - they lost their FOGO to Ohio State and a couple of 5th year poled to some other big program. They has a couple stand-out guys but they mix up their jerseys for scrimmages (I guess for reasons like this right here). Best shooter seemed to be a sophomore fr...

Re: Hobart 2024

The in-game highlights (mostly offense / how Hobart scored) can be found on that hobartlaxfans twitter (X?) account - if you want to read about who scored. For first years, there was mention of a FY (Swisher?) getting in and scoring and #11, Patterson may be the best offensive player on the team. 2 ...

Re: Hobart 2024

Nice to see some chatter again! I think we will see Herlihy running middie again after a tough injury-filled time at attack last year. Greene too - that seems to be his happier place. They seem to also like Delano and Rosa running out of the box a bit. The take-away may be constantly mixing this up ...
