Re: Ivy League

I'm mostly a DI men's lacrosse fan but went to a double-header at Yale for senior day for the men and women and saw the Yale women clinch sole possession of the regular season Ivy title with a win over Columbia. That got me tuning in on ESPN+ to the Ivy tournament -- wow, what a classic come-from-b...

Re: Voting

"Ever since Trump, you and so many have this preconceived notion that it is only the R's being deceptive, nefarious in seeking power; the edge." Marc Elias would like a word with you. Jesus; the notion is hardly "preconceived." GOP attempts to alter the voting process -- in the c...

Re: Round 2

Round 2 Matches/Predictions: BC v. Princeton -- BC Notre Dame v. Michigan -- Pick the "upset," Michigan Maryland v. JMU -- tough call here; Maryland, playing at home but not impressive late in the season. Hmmm, JMU by one. Penn v. Loyola -- another tough call here; going with Loyola redemp...

Re: NCAA Tournament 2024

Good one at College Park: PSU 13, JMU 12 in the 4th.

14-13 Dukes, about 3:00 to go....

37 seconds to go, JMU leading by one, PSU's ball. Good game.

Fairfield basically in a home game against Hopkins in New Haven. Bit of a dogfight ahead?

Re: 2024

Snippet from an article in the Post: “Advisers say Trump is determined to hire Manafort, likely handing him a substantial role at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, because he appreciates that his onetime campaign chairman has remained loyal to him even while serving in prison.” Mob bo...

Re: 2024 All-Americans

I'd switch Thacker (1st Team) and Nalls (2nd Team). Both great defenders and players, but I think Nalls has a harder job within the UNC defense (than Sam does within Denver's), particularly this year.

Re: Voting

Who is dumb enough to keep falling for this bs? https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2024/may/8/mike-johnson-champions-bill-preventing-illegal-imm/ Republicans are already blaming a potential loss in 2024 on illegal voters. On Wednesday, Speaker Johnson and other Trump Republicans held a press conf...

Re: Conservative Ideology: A Big Lie

Not sure where to put this, but this is part of the debate about a proposal by the GOP to ask a citizenship question during the census process, and eventually count only citizens in the census, in violation of the Constitution and the manner we have counted for census purposes since 1790. Worth the ...

Re: 2024

So Biden tells another whopper in Wisconsin. One of his Catholic HS teachers was drafted by the Green Bay Packers. He chose to be a priest instead. No record of this teacher ever having been drafted into the NFL. Of course in Joes defective brain that is what he believes is true. I guess his stutte...

GREAT essay by the inimitable Dahlia Lithwick about how rightwing activist, extremists in the legal community and, unfortunately, now dominating the US SCOTUS have twisted the "originalist" notion of interpreting and "enforcing" the Constitution beyond reasonable recognition. Ho...

Re: Voting

Once again, this is YA working -- deliberately or unwittingly, hard to say -- on the principal GOP agenda item for 2024: sowing distrust with our electoral process and institutions. For a party deliberately without a platform, and taken over from basement to penthouse by the Trump family, the Big Li...
