Re: MIAA "A" Conference 2024
Friday nights game at Calvert Hall vs Spalding will go a long way in determining the #2 seed assuming Boys' Latin beats Severn and St. Paul's and is the #1 seed. I have a hard time seeing BL stumbling in either of those games. Both Calvert Hall and Spalding beat McDonogh so they have the head-to-hea...

Just taught my son about intangible asset market economics playing monopoly. Kid kept landing in jail and I had two get out of jail free cards I sold him my two cards successively for 350 and 450k Wow! Not sure how old your son is but I taught my son how to play golf when he was 12 and he is shooti...

Re: NCAA Football
Geneva - thanks for your reply but, "I believe it’s because of passing of minimum requirements for attendance and other aspects. Whether that’s fair or not doesn’t matter as the NCAA is DOA and just doesn’t know it yet."...does not really provide any clarity. JMU was not my son's first cho...

Re: NCAA Football
I attended College GameDay last Saturday at James Madison, it was electric. My wife and I got to the Quad at 7:00 am and there were already about 10,000 people there. My son got there at 3:00 am and he was near the stage that the Jonas Brothers performed on. All told they estimated 26,000 people eve...

Re: ***********The MIAA "A" Conference 2023**************
John Carroll has all the potential in the world to compete in lacrosse. Nice campus. Good location. Good academics. Relatively affordable. They are the only private school in Harford County. They even have dorms on campus. They are a sleeping giant. And it would be great for the school and league t...

Re: ***********The MIAA "A" Conference 2023**************
Hearing the school is finally serious about supporting the program. But the interest is light. Too bad. There is some talent/promise there. The sad part of this is that the coach who seemingly got the short end of the stick is left wondering why? Why was what I was doing was not good enough? What a...

Re: Is America a racist nation?
In early March my wife and I visited Ole Miss with my adopted bi-racial son, who if you saw him walking down the street you would say he is black. My wife and I are white. We were fortunate enough to hook up with a girl who we knew from home who had just graduated and was a grad student. She jumped ...

JC Fan - thanks for your thoughtful perspective. John Carroll is essentially a 'B' conference school athletically, right? What initiated the push to the 'A' conference for lacrosse? JC moved to the 'A' in 2015 (?) thinking they were going to keep the Harford County boys at home? I love what you have...

Re: Long time coming…
As a life long educator, I always encourage parents who have summer birthday boys to consider holding them back from kindergarten because boys typically mature later than girls. They graduate HS at 18 and turn 19 that summer - absolutely nothing wrong with that. Why would you put your child at a dis...

Re: American Educational System
180 days is plenty if we had smaller class sizes. Kids are learning so much more than we did growing up, like we learned so much more than our parents did. Hope I'm not overdoing it, here. I would guess that you are imagining 180 instructional classes, but when you factor in schedules where the cla...

Certainly another way to look at it and every teacher I know would love that! Private tutoring is a great way to move a student forward. I beli...

Re: American Educational System
If the school year were to be increased from 180 days to 225 days, a 20% increase, then a 20% increase for all teachers and staff. Where does that money come from? A 9-12 week on and 3-4 week off schedule for K-5 children is extremely difficult because of establishing routines after a 3-4 week break...

In the public schools I am familiar with in our area they have guidance counselors at the high school level who double as college counselors. At my sons catholic high school they have 4 college counselors whose sole purpose is to assist in the college process. The average graduating class is about 3...

The union also recommends a pair of books by ideologues who argue that America is systemically racist: “White Fragility” by Robin DiAngelo and “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man” by Emmanuel Acho.
