Re: The Nation's Financial Condition

The whole key is: no exemptions. That's how we got to where we are in the first place. Moreover, why would we have exemptions? Does everyone use government services? Roads? Protection from our military? A trifling percentage would yield hundreds of billions of dollars. Pretty easy to balance the bud...

Re: The Nation's Financial Condition

Let's indeed think about 45% of households (77.5 million people) not paying any federal taxes. If they're all the poor, then they generally make less than around $10k-$15k per year depending on how they file. Let's say they spend 100% of their income, that means they would pay at most $150 per year...

Re: SCOTUS

This comment on the NYTimes story hit the ball out of the park... In case you wondered how the alt right neocon Heritage and Federalist societies have hijacked the Supreme Court and lower federal courts.... Ever wonder how free speech became Citizens United Or how these organizations are at the fore...

Re: The Nation's Financial Condition

The worst part of it is, it would solve every problem that we have as a nation. It would tax the black market It would make overseas tax shelters pointless It would tax tourists It would tax illegal aliens It would tax the bottom half of earners that don't currently pay income tax It would tax all t...

Re: Voting Rights

If no ID's are involved, how does one go about getting a default mail in ballot in the first place? :o Sigh. Ever the contrarian. What is keeping me from taking my wife's ballot...or my neighbors ballot out of his mailbox since they all arrive on the same day....filling it out, and sending it in? N...

Re: Progressive Ideology

Yup, all of the choices of poisons come with risks and I'd bet alcohol comes with higher risks than marijuana but we're (collectively) willing to accept those risks. I'd agree with that. The big difference between pot and alcohol is...I can have single beer, wine, or whiskey with dinner.....enjoy i...

I'm saying the exact same thing the video is saying. The whole voter ID nonsense has nothing to do with anything other than Republicans winning elections.

Re: The GOP, Past and Future Direction

All true. But I will say----if you ever meet a real, actual Christian? It's quite a thing. Following J's teachings with all your heart is a pretty good way to live your life, if you ask me. I can think of 4 people I've met who really follow those simple tenants each and every day. Remarkable people,...

Ah, the Deep State was blown sky high, says VDH?

So they're gone? Do I have this right? It's Oct. 2018, and the Deep State is no more, RR? Is that what you think?

Re: The GOP, Past and Future Direction

What they do think about is feelings - how does their bank account feel, how does their job feel, how do they feel about their place in their community, their community in their state, their state in the US and the US in the world. The answer lately has been: not all that good. If this is true, and...

Re: The GOP, Past and Future Direction

I couldn't name a single regulation that has improved my life or made me wealthier. Neither could anyone else in the 15 or so years of the Water Cooler. Deregulation is right up there with "waste and fraud" in terms of something no one in government has any intention of addressing. The pa...

Re: The Nation's Financial Condition

 The best part is hearing "serious" economists like Laffer insisting that the math squares.

If this worked, even a little, why not cut taxes down to next to nothing? Why not cut to 1%?

And when these idiots try and answer that question, the jig is up.

All the rest is noise to distract the voters and keep them from doing something about it. But, but, Trumpy and the R's gave Bandito a $2000 tax break. That must mean Bandito and his 99%ers are "winning", right? Yep. How many times have I said this since Trump arrived? Or Obama, if you pre...
