Re: NESCAC

Interesting, So what would you propose? Not sure anything put forward would be equitable. Don’t understand why # of teams matters. The # of bids is somewhat proportionate between divisions. Why should the conference Marist is in have an AQ and not the conference New England College is in? An 8 team...

SKUD wrote: Thu May 11, 2023 12:49 pm So do you think the standard should also change for D1?
No. There are far fewer teams in D1 and relative competitiveness among the vast majority of the teams is much higher.

Re: NESCAC

That being said: I absolutely think AQs should exist. Every team should have access to the tournament (although the NCAA's standards for giving conferences AQ spots should be tighter than they are now, and there should be a few more at-large spots available). This is the same place that I come out....

Re: NESCAC

You do realize that half of the NCAA college lacrosse teams would not exist without the AQ right? AQ's allow chances for schools to see a return on their investments. Why add a sport if you're never going to be able to compete for anything? Not only has it grown the game, but it has spread talent a...

Re: NESCAC

Don't get me wrong, Bowdoin is a good team who would beat 60%-70% of the field but to poo poo other programs accomplishments is just wrong. I'm not ragging anyone but the NCAA, which seems hell-bent on deterring top programs from scheduling teams outside of the top ~30 ... in clear conflict with th...

Re: NESCAC

I don't believe that...I know that. Why do you think Bates played Southern Maine and Maine Maritime this year? And Colby St. Joseph's, Thomas and MM? They have dates to fill and they play local teams to help boost them. The coaches know each other, lacrosse in Maine is an insular world. Bowdoin has...

Re: Who will win the Div3 NCAA Tournament

Let's see how it plays out. There are 3 teams that are favorites - there are 4-6 teams that are capable making a lot of noise and then there is everyone else. The most intriguing game for sure will be Amherst - Salisbury and Middlebury - RIT - provided no big upsets. I think those two games will be...

Re: NESCAC

Kenyon getting an at large bid over Bowdoin seems criminal. Obviously the bracket is regionally focused and it’s just not how it works but the Polar Bears maintained a top 15 ranking for nearly the entire season. Just about every year the 4/5th NESCAC is left out in favor of a team from a weaker co...

Is this a convenient lodging issue or an NCAA rule?
Neither.

It’s a Middlebury decision.
Thanks.

Isn't Midd hosting next weekend? Did I read the brackets wrong?
Selection show noted that Union is hosting Midd's group. May have something to do with the Midd women's' team hosting that same weekend.

Re: NESCAC

Through three quarters, Midd's offense predictably one-sided and prone to unforced turnovers. Toomy has done an excellent job frustrating Midd's righty threats and eliminating the crease camping goals. Solid blueprint for beating the Panthers in the NCAAs unless Haefele makes adjustments.

I think Midd's got a chance if they clean up the unforced turnovers in the offensive end, make better use of their strongest outside shooters and move the ball earlier on fast breaks.

Re: NESCAC

Midd really is excellent this year but D isn’t their strength. I have to disagree with this perspective: only Williams had a better GAA than Midd this season (10.2 v 10.5). IMO, Midd's success is attributable to (i) disciplined zone defense, (ii) opportunistic goalkeeping, (iii) excellent clearing,...

... Amplo telling one Navy parent’s at the Yeager Pavilion to “Shut the F….. Up” during the game was priceless. Parent was chirping the staff about one of the Navy players being on the field after he committed a turn-over. Never a dull moment ... Things are NOT well within the Navy program. Amazing.
