Re: VA Public School Lacrosse

First games tonight, haven't seen any results but heard of one COVID related reschedule/cancellation (two non-major schools). Was a great night for lacrosse! I did get to watch 20 minutes of JV game, and found the full field 7v7 interesting. Both teams had enough players to play 10v10 but didn't, wa...

Re: University of Maryland Terrapins

Playing on turf is a highly predictable surface, requires less maintenance, and makes the weather basically a non-factor. That's also true of field turf, which is a very common surface in men's and women's lacrosse. The feel of the surface and the way the ball behaves translates very well between g...

Re: VA Public School Lacrosse

What are some of the key early season matchup's to watch? With mostly district games, we should know early who is who and what is what. I think 5A is a foregone conclusion but 6A should see some surprises. So uh, who's got 5A locked up and who are the teams in 6A to be watching? I think the answer ...

Re: University of Maryland Terrapins

I've seen players run into fences a handful of times at different venues. Not College Park that I can recall, but it can and does happen. There are lots of places with this issue. What I have NEVEER understood is why such a storied program that receives tremendous support from the university plays ...

Re: Big Ten 2021

Trying to find the case for PSU to be substantially improved in 2022 and I don’t see anything. Personally think TJ Malone is criminally underrated, 61pts in his last 16 games over 20-21, 38 in 9 this year. After OKeefe and Malone there’s nothing. Only four kids total in double digits in 9 games. Kn...

Re: Will Florida State go varsity this time?

In the article the coach is talking about how they have to show that they are competitive with current programs. As we've seen from Michigan and Utah, it can take quite a long time to be competitive in the D1 landscape...and quite often the current coaches/program aren't up to the challenge. I hope...

Holy Cross done: https://twitter.com/inside_lacrosse/status/1382472807666302979?s=21 Reads like the men's and women's teams weren't following the rules. Re: Will Florida State go varsity this time?

Doubt it very much that FSU fields varsity men’s lacrosse. Maybe women’s if they need Title IX balancing. But a men’s program seems a stretch. They have the look and feel of an SEC school even though they are in the ACC. E.g. no men’s soccer while they have a strong women’s team. Wouldn't adding wo...

Re: Maryland 2021

Jared easily has the athleticism to be an NFL receiver. He may be a notch below Stefon Diggs, but so are 98% of the other receivers. Not only does Jared have the athleticism, but he has the size, toughness, intelligence and maturity that many NFL receivers lack. The only question is does he have th...

Re: Maryland 2021

I wonder if Jared is entertaining any ideas of an NFL tryout as a slot receiver. If anyone could do it, he's the one. I don't think he's ever played WR, though was a very good QB in HS and was recruited to play that position at USNA. But I'm not sure his athleticism being top tier for lacrosse is e...

Re: Maryland 2021

I worry about the lack of competition during the regular season like many others are noting. But, remember this, Terps have one of the strongest offensive units in the country and one of the strongest defensive units (if not straight up the best defensive unit) in the country. And who are the scrim...

Re: VA Public School Lacrosse

Any word on fans? Seems like restrictions are being lifted. I think I read “outdoor venues” can have up to 30% capacity. Having been to a few Robo lax games 30% should accommodate everyone April 1, HS stadiums can have up to 500 spectators. Most VA HS will have as many fans as they want. There MAY ...

Re: VA Public School Lacrosse

I don’t think the NoVa region has freshman lacrosse. I helped out with the JV team a few years ago at Robinson and it was just V and JV. I think the only sports with freshman teams are football, basketball and maybe volleyball? I might be dating myself, but a couple programs tried it in an ad hoc b...

Re: New Face Off Rules

Ierlan 25 out of 26 so far this year. New rules don't seem to have slowed him down much, though 26 draws is a pretty small sample size. Let's see how he does against the likes of Gallagher, Sisselberger, Naso, La Salla et al come tourney time should we be lucky enough to see some of those matchups....

Re: VA Public School Lacrosse

Per a VA public HS coach on Facebook, JV (and I believe freshman) has been approved by VHSL to used modified 7v7 rules to enable teams to exist given lower than usual player turnout expected. Would going to 7v7 for Freshman ever be a BENEFIT? For the first time since the early 1980's lacrosse parti...
