Re: Best Teams In DI Lacrosse History That DIDN'T Win It All?

Oldhead take 1. CORNELL 1978. I mean, how could there be any other team here? They had won 42 straight games, the longest streak in NCAA history, including two national championships along the way. 2. MARYLAND 1976. It's arguable, of course, but this totally loaded runner-up Terps squad might be the...

Re: Cornell 2023

Maybe Walker Wallace started a trend for Cornell and having a ginormous, 6'5"-plus LSM on the roster is going to be more than one-cohort fluke. Jeremy Launt, a 2024 recruit from British Columbia (Burnaby Mountain Secondary/Pro Caliber Lacrosse) seems to have committed to Cornell. If true, nice ...

Re: Cornell 2023

More media heroism from Byron Brown (thank you, sir). Check out his YouTube video (link below) with select post-power outage highlights from yesterday, beginning with Army's possession that culminated in Johnson's first goal of the 4th quarter, making it 9-8 Cornell. Plenty of important moments capt...

Re: Brown 2023

Reporting by Terry Foy of Inside Lacrosse suggests that it's at least in part a student conduct issue. Excellent job by the Brown players who stepped up to fill those vacated roster roles and the coaching staff for making adjustments.

Re: Cornell 2022

Oops, I just posted about Swezey's new book in a separate thread. Sorry about that. It seemed to be of too much interest to non-Cornellians to post it here in Our Own Private Tompkinsco.

D1 lax history: Christian Swezey's new We Told Baltimore book (oldhead-certified)

Pausing from 2022 to acknowledge the arrival of a new book that will be of interest to college lacrosse fans: Christian Swezey's We Told Baltimore: The Lacrosse Revolution of the 1970s and Richie Moran's Big Red , published by the Three Hills imprint of Cornell University Press (with a forward by Bi...

Re: Cornell 2022

Home game against Army confirmed as 2022 schedule addition in mid-April; tentative schedule in earlier post updated.

Also: Research findings suggest that ingenuous schedule-related daydreaming and web-surfing linked to 35 percent decline in COVID-related social irritation, sleep disruptions. Try it.

EDIT NOTICE: 2022 SCHEDULE HAS BEEN POSTED. IGNORE THIS. SCHEDULE: https://cornellbigred.com/sports/mens-lacrosse/schedule More than half of the 2022 schedule is known thanks to other programs' releases. If you're as impatient as I am, you probably track this already. This is for the sane folks. Alt...

Re: Ivy League 2020

Just reported via Twitter by Mike Jensen, an excellent college sports columnist/reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer (and a Princeton grad, I think):

"Just in: Ivy League says no to changing rules to help spring-sport athletes graduate and play next year."

Re: Cornell 2020

The 1976 national championship game was unforgettable. Regional Bias Department : Thinking about that game reminded me that both of the late goals described above -- Frank Urso's laser to pull Maryland within one and Greg Rumpf's equalizer with six seconds left in regulation (assisted by Urso) -- we...

Re: Syracuse 2020

So what is the academic upgrade he wanted to get out of his transfer? If he is choosing to stay on the communications pathway that he seems to have started at Loyola, then Syracuse is a massive academic upgrade. SU's Newhouse School of Public Communications is universally recognized as one of the v...

Re: Transfer Poll: Chase Scanlan - Open through July 12th

faircornell is right about Cornell having a strong legacy of Native American players going back at least half a century (although it's nothing like the special, deep connections that Syracuse's program has with that community) as well as an American Indian and Indigenous Studies program. It's great ...

Re: Cornell 2019

My thoughts on Barry Leonard - an excellent generalist play-by-play guy. While he's a Cornell guy in terms of his personal support, IMO he calls the game objectively and rarely crosses the line. His voice is distinctive and easy on the listener. We're also lucky to have an excellent analyst in Tom ...
