We’re currently doing a 10% Ante ranking for Men’s D1 Lacrosse and, now, we’re doing it for Boys HS Lacrosse.

How 10% Ante Works: Every team starts with 1,000 Points.  Two teams play each other.  At the end of the game, the losing team gives the winning team 10% of their points.  For example, let’s say that Culver Academy (1,323 Points) plays Middling HS (142 Points).  Culver beats Middling HS.  Middling HS loses 14 Points while Culver gains 14 Points*.  Alternatively, Middling HS beats Culver.  Culver would lose 132 points while Middling HS would gain 132.  In other words, beat a big team and you get big points.  Beat a weak team, not so much.  That’s it.

(Besides each team losing and gaining 10% of the losing teams Points, 10% Ante gives the winning team a Bonus based on the ranking of the losing team.  If the higher the losing team is ranked, the bigger the bonus 10% Ante pays out.  But don’t let this complicate the rankings or confuse you.  If you understand the 10%, you understand 10% Ante.)

Based on teams beating good teams, this is who we believe to be the Top Teams in HS Lacrosse.  If you think we should add a team, let us know.  Below is the current 10% Ante ranking (05.04.18) as well as a couple observations.

Games Played – “GP” = Games Played.  Playing more games isn’t necessarily an advantage (when you lose) but it most certainly can be an advantage for teams like Culver who play some big fish but also lots of minnows.  And while these minnows don’t offer a lot of points, they do offer points and the games are all but Ws for Culver.

Brunswick Catching Culver – With this said…   Brunswick has played 6 fewer games than Culver and their upcoming games include Westminster (503 Points), Avon Old F (560 Points), Salisbury (1,395), Trinity Pawling (582), and Berkshire (247).  The 254 points that separate Culver and Brunswick is a lot but Brunswick has the right remaining games to catch Culver.

End-of-Season Big Games – As Play-Offs and State Championships loom large on the horizon, so do big games between big teams with a lot of points.  In other words, whoever wins the MIAA title, a NY State Title, etc. will finish the season with a lot of points.  Possibly, more points than Culver or Brunswick.
