How can St. Josephs be ahead of UVA and RU?

First, just because the masses are under-rating a team doesn’t mean a team isn’t worthy of recognition.  With this said, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion and… I’m just explaining why 10% Ante ranked St. Josephs over UVA and Rutgers.  This (below) shows a game-by-game breakdown of St. Joseph’s, UVA’s and RU’s games as well as a running tab of their 10% Ante points throughout.

The short answer is…

St. Josephs has a 10-game winning streak and, along the way, have beaten Penn (1,121) and Robert Morris (1,150).  If you don’t lose and beat two over-1,000 Point teams, you’ll accumulate points.  In these same 10 weeks, RU beat SU (1,050), Michigan (1,093) and PSU (1,234) and UVA beat Princeton (943), UVM (1,236) and Syracuse (1,300).  In the same 10 weeks that St. Josephs was undefeated, RU lost to Princeton, JHU, UMD, and OSU while UVA lost to SU, Notre Dame, JHU, Duke, and Notre Dame again.  That is why St. Josephs is ahead of RU and UVA.

The more detailed/longer answers is…

RU, St. Josephs, and UVA, respectively, start the season with 830, 940, and 840 Points.  After Game One, both RU and UVA are at 1,000 Points while St. Joseph’s is closer to 800.  Due to losses and playing relatively weak teams, St, Josephs doesn’t crack 1,000 Points until Game 10 when they beat an 811-Point Bryant.  At this point, UVA is also at 1,000 while RU is at 1,200.  After UVA beats Richmond and UNC, St. Josephs beats UPenn and Mt. St. Marys, and RU beats Michigan and loses to Maryland, all three teams are at 1,200 points.  Game 13, RU and St. Josephs, respectively, beat PSU and Robert Morris, both over-1,000 point teams, and move to 1,400 while UVA loses to Duke and moves to 1,150.  At this point, Game #13 is St. Joseph’s last game played this season and they’re at 1,374 points.  (Tomorrow, Thursday, at 1 PM, they will play a 510-Point Sacred Heart.)  RU played one more game than St. Josephs and that was a loss to OSU which left them at 1,268 Points.  And UVA played 4 more games than St. Josephs including wins over UVM (1,236), Syracuse (1,300) and VMI (127) and a loss to Notre Dame (1,376).  This leaves UVA with 1,389 Points but, UVA has played 4 more games than St. Josephs and 3 more games than RU.  When their Points are adjusted to match UVA’s 17 game season, St. Josephs has 1,796 Points and RU has 1,539 Points.  thus, in order, St. Josephs, RU, and UVA.
