PENNSYLVANIA HS BOYS LACROSSE

STATE CHAMPIONS AND ALL-AMERICANS

Pennsylvania State Champions (1965-2010)

Avery Blake Memorial Trophy Winners

Through 2001, the winner of the Avery F. Blake Memorial Trophy was considered to be the de facto Pennsylvania state champion. Before 1969, the Pennsylvania boys lacrosse state champion was selected by the coaches. It was not until 1969 that the PSLA (the Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association’s predecessor) organized and implemented playoffs to determine the state champion.

In 2001 and following the formation of the Central Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association (CPSLA), the three high school boys lacrosse associations in Pennsylvania — the EPSLA, CPSLA and WPSLA (Western PA) — organized and implemented a new system to determine the Pennsylvania state champion. Under the new system, the CPSLA Champion plays the WPSLA Champion to determine which team will challenge the EPSLA Champion for the state championship title. That title — the Keystone Cup — is determined annually at the end of each season in Hershey. Through 2006, no challenger from the central or western part of the state has beaten the EPSLA Champion to win the Keystone Cup. Those teams, however, are increasingly competitive as lacrosse continues to grow.
