In 2004, FanLax started their Fantasy Lacrosse League. Our Fantasy League covers the players from 24 D1 Men’s teams. And, how we select these teams is based on a system where we grade each NCAA D1 Men’s team with a Point System that weighs the rankings of every D1 Men’s with the most recent rankings have the most weight and the least recent rankings having the least weight. (e.g. Most recent ranking is multiplied by 1.0, last year’s ranking is multiplied by 0.9, year before multiplied by 0.8, etc. Rankings from 10 years ago and older are multiplied by 0.1.) With this Ranking System, this is the list of the most and least successful teams since 2005. UMBC is the #39 team on this list and is currently one of FanLax’s 24 “NCAA Teams that Count”. (As a “Keeper League”, we’re slow to drop NCAA teams because if we drop, for example, UMBC, all the Fantasy Coaches with UMBC freshman, sophomores, and juniors will be losing critical players.)
What is obvious is that Maryland and Duke, in that order, have been the top teams in Men’s D1 Lacrosse.
What is less obvious is that:
- Albany – From 2013-2018, Albany had many good seasons. In 2019, Albany returned to their 2012 and earlier numbers. Lyle Thompson played for Albany in 2012-2015, Connor Fields in 2015-2018. In other words, unless Albany finds a new Thompson or Fields, their top-ranking is less than stable.
- Villanova – Currently, Villanova appears to be the next team to become a FanLax “NCAA Fantasy Team that Counts”.
- Brown – Brown is currently well-ranked but as 2016 becomes smaller in our rear-view mirror, Brown’s rank looks less impressive.
- Bucknell – Bucknell is like a yo-yo.
- UMBC – If Villanova continues in their winning ways, UMBC will be joining the ranks of Dartmouth, Hobart, and the other teams that were removed from the FanLax Fantasy Lacrosse League.
