We will know officially who the teams participating in the NCAA Men’s D1 National Championship on May 5 at 9 PM EST. But, until then, these are the teams that will and should (in italics) be in the tournament. 17 teams qualify for the NCAA Tournament though two of these teams, most likely the MAA and Northeast Champions, play in a play-in game to narrow the field to 16.  These are those 17 teams:

9 Automatic Qualifiers: 1-Stony Brook/UMBC winner (America East), 2-Denver/Georgetown (Big East), 3-Towson/UMass (CAA), 4-Penn/Yale/Cornell winner (Ivy), 5-MAA Winner, most likely Marist, who will play, most likely, 6-Mt. St. Marys (Northeast) in the Play-In Game, 7- Loyola (Patriot), 8-High Point (Southern), and 9-Penn State/Maryland/Johns Hopkins (B1G).

Along with these 9 teams, 8 teams will be joining them. If the teams listed above win their conferences, then Virginia, Notre Dame, Duke, and Syracuse (ACC), whichever of Penn, Yale, and Cornell don’t win the Ivies, and whichever of Penn State, Maryland, and Johns Hopkins don’t win the B1G will be joining them. BUT… If Brown wins the Ivies (which they won’t), or Rutgers wins the B1G (which they won’t), then Johns Hopkins, if they don’t win the B1G, will be taken off the list.  And one more scenario, which is substantially more realistic, if Loyola doesn’t win the Patriot League, then Loyola takes JHU’s spot.

That’s it.
