Just creating the thread. And I'm very curious about numerous teams in the area. Any preconditions/rankings?

I will take a stab at it.

Class A - No clear favorite here. Penfield, Fairport and Pittsford all have some nice players. There is no dominate team at this point. I am willing to bet one of these teams will put it all together. I am biased but I like Penfield a lot. They have nice mix of scorers and young players. Their defense should be rock solid.

Class B - This might be a tough year for Victor. They have 2 dynamic scorers but they have lost an awful lot of experience. I really like Canandaigua, IMO they are ready to return back what they were 10 years ago. I could see them in the state finals if this group of guys reaches their potential. I think Victor vs CA could be the most up and coming rivalry in section V

Class C - Geneva seems to have no serious competition here. They have a very solid team

Class D - Who else but Penn Yan? I don't know how coach Hobart does it but he keeps digging up these talented lax players every year. Not that many teams have as tough of a schedule as the Mustangs. They never it seems like have any easy games.

Too early to call the section but once again the state finals will be held at SJF. I'll go out on a limb and predict that more than one LI poster will whine and cry about this fact. :P

Hey Nigel and Craddle! I was feeling lost with the new season starting soon without my mainstay forums and then stumbled upon FanLax. Glad that I was able to find everyone. Now, I need to start a Section III thread to fill out the upstate contingent.

I read somewhere that Victor could be a top 20 twenty team in the country. I don't see it. Victor is a good team that is about to step back to reality. I think Canandaigua can beat them this year. Irondequoit, my new home town should give Victor a run. For my self, as long as Penfield beats them I will be a happy camper. :D

UA/IL poll from March 20 has Victor at #22. We will see.

I still think CA is better than them. I have no facts to back that up, just a hunch. IMO Victor vs Canandaigua with their close proximity to each other are a natural traditional rivalry. CA has been quiet for too long and they have too much tradition to not have a breakout season. They have the talent and I expect them to be a very good team. Gotta love a bunch of laxers heading out to chow down on garbage plates. :D

I am sure that Victor has players waiting in the wings, but can they replace the depth and production of the 2018 seniors.

No question that returning Joey Pezz and Camden Hay will be the center piece of their offense at attack (Combined 80G & 47A). These two are fantastic players, but what impact did the production of the departing seniors have on their 2018 performance. Victor loses Lambert at attack and Cain, Mabbett, Russell, A. Pezz & Keenan at midfield (Combined 138G & 80A). Does Victor have enough offensive depth to attack and score from all positions?

Defense is a big question mark. No doubt, whoever replaces Chayse Ierlan (played 85% of minutes last 4 years) will have big shoes to fill. I think that Boland is the only returner an defense and he is very good. But losing the supporting cast of Hay, Novitsky and Ierlan will put a lot of pressure on the defense.

Not saying this is a rebuilding year for Victor, but it certainly is questionable for anyone to say that they are just reloading. Top 20 Nationally? I'm not so sure. But we will find out soon enough.

CA is a decent team, but history proves that in big games the coaches get out coached... I don't think they will be able to contain Victors attack and win many face offs. Plus, just my opinion, if you have to promote yourself through social media, that tells me that you might not be as good as you think you are... let your play speak for yourself

Welcome roclax! Hopefully you're not a one & done poster.

Enjoy another episode of BLN (particularly the young man working hard on his FOs at the 4:50 mark). As they say, haters gonna hate.

Not a hater, but someone who has watched a lot of lacrosse and call it like it is...

You could be 100% correct. Victor has not proven anything yet. Their reputation and potential will not win them a single game this year. You do know that Victors coach is still a relative newbie to coaching lacrosse. My comments are not to disparage him but he did have the amazing good fortune to be the coach of an astoundingly talented group of lacrosse players over the last 4 years. I am interested to see how he does a coach when the talent level drops off and real adversity strikes your team. I like CA this year. Will they be able to beat Victor? We will find out soon enough. You seem to be overlooking the tradition of lacrosse that the Braves have built up over a long time. IMO opinion Victor and Canandaigua are natural lacrosse rivals. The competitiveness they are starting now should last for a very long time.

Some interesting games to see how the season will play out this week:

Brighton V. Thomas... Can Thomas reload..

VIctor V Pittsford... The same, does VIctor and Pittsford have the depth and the ability to reload

Big 10-9 OT road win by Geneva over Corning. Last year Corning won easily 13-5 so nice turn of tables.

Looks like the Panthers are returning a fair amount of talent this year in their quest for a repeat of their Class C Sectional Title. Pretty good bet that happens.

I’m looking forward to another season of afternoon/evening games in Section 5 and getting my fill. Was able to see a number of really good games and remarkable depth, specifically in Class B. Last years Class A was surprisingly down, so it will be interesting to see if they rebound.

How about Brighton 10-3 over Thomas. Surprising result for a team that came up one goal short to Victor, twice.

It's nice to see games being broadcast live and it was quite the game last night between Victor and Pittsford. A quick take away from the game, Victor's faceoff specialist completely dominated the game winning 16 of 17 and scored 2 goals. What's will happen if he is not so dominant? Pezz can only do so much. How about that drive from X, everyone knew it was coming, two poles crashed on him and couldn't stop him. Pittsford's top attack man took 8 shots, mustered one goal and had at least 3 turnovers, I would think a whole lot more is expected of him.

Great game, look forward to an exciting year. I believe all the classes are up in the air:

Class A... Hilton, Greece, Pittsford
Class B... Canandaigua, Brighton, Victor
Class C and D ... no idea

Home opener for PY today, Marcellus takes it 4-3 in OT.
