Rate of denied admission probably embarrassingly high. Obviously the number of qualified kids keeps going down every year.

It is an odd affair. I know many kids locally that apply and do not get in as freshman that are > 3.7 gpa and strong SAT's. The go to CC for a year or two and transfer in. You can bet one thing.....every out of Country full pay kid gets in. One of the kids I coached was walking with the head of the Clark School of Engineering for a tour, alongside was a family from China, the Chinese Father, after the tour asked how much to write the check for......for all four years.

This year UMD even enrolled too many students and had to move kids off campus. Then to add insult to injury, they had to evacuate one building due to mold....now to be fair, we did have a monsoon summer and that building had no A/C to dehumidify the place.

That place is run by the seat of their pants.

Spot on.

My wife is the head of the Math Department at a well-known and well-attended Maryland community college. It's in a highly populated and decent socioeconomic area and draws its kids from a wide variety of mostly county and city public schools. The number of students that are entering (after graduating h/s) without the ability to do basic middle school math, yet alone ready for college level, has resulted in the need to create of an entirely new "000" level (compared to 101 etc.) Math department.

My Wife and her teachers are literally teaching college kids how to do the same math my 4th and 6th grade kids are currently learning.

looks like a college education ain't such a good idea after all:

Simplest solution is: STOP requiring college degrees for jobs. Especially government jobs. CNA's that care for your parents dont have them. You dont need one to be a lawyer in California.

Oh.....and if NOT for profit colleges get most of its "other" revenue from donors, then they can stop taking the billions from the government ;)

But, in short.....have NO sympathy for all these debtors. NO one forced them to take out loans. And, if you can't pay back a $50k loan in five years, or less, was that college degree worth it.

I know guys like TLD will post post college earnings.....way HIGHer than non degreed earners.....but pretty sure that is old data. Remember, the 'greatest generation" went to college under a socialist program. SOCIALIST. What else do you call it?

Money isn’t everything. How about going to a school that’s affordable. Also, you can make a very good living via a trade. I have been talking about that for 15 years. It’s not for everyone but neither is college. Going to college results in better outcome. You can argue the system but I am living in the current reality. You and others want a paradigm shift. Maybe it will happen. I don’t have to tell you but cutting the military budgets by about 2% would pay for college for most kids or heavily subsidize it. I remember the old days of kids going to school on a pell Grant. Country was great back then. Make it great again!

Yeah.....and tv was free. And no cell phones. The real laughable college scenario are the state college system, especially in the pretend liberal states. It's going to be cheaper for my offspring to attend a NESCAC school than it would be to attend ZooMass, Amherst. Knew plenty of smart, yet bitter because they couldn't afford the schools they got into, students at College Park. You could work and pay your way. Today, we all know what the costs are for in staters. Aren't Massachusettes and Maryland caring Democratic states? Proof, that the TAATS don't care about the poor. And, any family living in those states that makes less than 6 figures IS poor. Don't kid yourself. You are.

Yep. Those folks making less than 6 figures are going to raise hell if the marginal tax rate goes up on the $10,000,001th dollar.

The best thing a family can do is NOT save fore college, that savings will cripple you come admissions time. Parents need offshore bank acounts to shelter this money...or store it another familes account ;)

It's not lying if they don't ask. Do the forms have questions about offshore bank accounts, other than "other assests"? Seems vague enough to not go in the lying terrotory.

You can create a fictional relative. Or, non profit. The latter is the much easier root, what with those nasty unPATRIOT act rules for opening bank accounts. Why is it a colleges business to know someones financial situation. Said it before, the interest on only a small percentage of many college endowments will allow EVERYONE to attend for free. What is stopping Harvard/Hopkins from doing this? Nothing.

State college tuition AND room and board.....should be based on that states median income. Maryland, roughly $80k. Yet, you are asking parents to pay 15% of their income on just tuition and "books" if living at home/commuting. 32 % if their child is living on campus. Pretends don't see a problem with this. Instate tuition for ZooMass is about 30% of the "her way" states $100k median income. Doable, but tough to commute to Amherst from Lincoln-Sudbury. (LS kids to play for UMass anyhow )

The pretends sabre rattle about paying for college, but both states are controlled by pretend liberals. VERY expensive to go to the states "flagship" campuses. Guess the Terps basketball lockerroom needs new life sized pictures next to the players lockers, lest the forget their names or what they look like. Or, an indoor practice facility, even though the pretends "believe" their world is getting warmer. (aircondited facilities, you dumb dum )

I don’t know of too many people that believe sending a kid to college is cheap. Do you?

TLD, don't understand where your question is coming from. Sorry for not being clear.

Pretends liberals are touting college loan forgiveness. Ask yourself why? B/c they care about the young people carrying the loans, or the banks that get the interest? All this forgiveness talk is benefitting the banks, NOT the whiners complaining about them.

If the pretends really cared about the cost of college, they would be demanding that our PUBLIC colleges be more affordable. WAY more affordable. There is no reason why Marty Meehan (pres of zooMass) should be making a 7 figure salary.

If we are demanding (which we do, private or public) to see people private financial situation.....when it comes to publics, what is wrong with a law that says you pay, at most, 5% of your parents income to attend COllege Park, Huntsville, Purchase, Columbus, Ann Arbor, Austin, etc.

No one is proposing that. They have that awesome title9 stuff to hold over their heads, like the Federal govt. is doing to UVA , Florida and 100's of other HIGHer learning places.

RIght fatty, you idiot. Old Honest ABE had so much access to information over the internet. That is how he learned.

The poor today have zero access to todays technology. Any classes taught via computer only? Heck, BillyGates could buy 50 million people laptops and still have 99% of his fortune.
