Evidently, he had had other cardiac seizures and was under medical supervision. I am startled that he was allowed to play under these circumstances.

Chelsea v Manchester City: wow, what a fun, entertaining game. 4-4 is such a rare scoreline, and it wasn't that either goalkeeper played poorly. Poch has done a good job at Stamford Bridge, but only now in November are the results showing. With Maddison injured, Tottenham's honeymoon has definitely ended. Everton got an away win 3-2 over Crystal Palace, easing any relegation fears the blue Merseysiders still had. West Ham also won 3-2, edging a fun, see-saw battle in London against Nottingham Forest. Liverpool and Arsenal continued their winning ways, and Aston Villa also won. Man Utd scraped out a 1 nil win at Old Trafford against Luton, but nobody seriously thinks the Red Devils have turned some sort of corner. When Kevin de Bruyne is back healthy for Man City...
Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur: aren't those names wonderful?

From last place to first place!

Megan Rapinoe ends her long and successful career though she got a non contact injury and had to leave the game early.

Yes, I watched the West-Ham-Forest game and agree with you. If Forest can keep up the level of play shown against West Ham and Aston Villa, they'll have fewer relegation worries than last season, and maybe even have a sniff at qualifying for a spot in one of the two lesser European cups. However, they will probably find it difficult to qualify for Europe because of how many really good teams are being assembled in the EPL. It's no coincidence that Man City won the most recent Champions League while West Ham took the Europa Coneference League trophy. Also, my lord, look what Harry Kane is doing in the Bundesliga; as a Spurs fan, I'm delighted that he wasn't sold to another English club. Also, Jude Bellingham is doing superlatively well for Real Madrid. Does this mean the English men's national team can win its first trophy since 1966? I dunknow, I figure they'll find some way to muck it up, but this should be a fun England team to watch.

A good friend of mine was in the stadium for this game. He learned what I experienced living in South America: no better atmosphere than a big, important South American soccer match in front of 60,000 fans.

No. Although reports indicate "slugfest" is quite accurate, also crowd violence. There are ugly sides of the beautiful game....

Man City are struggling. Haaland has lost his scoring boots. Will Kevin de Bruyne ever return for City?

Really enjoyed this game; Villa was wonderful to watch.

I think City really misses KDB and Ilkay. It's a lot to believe any team -- even one as loaded as City -- could just carry on from the loss of players of that kind of caliber. Was Doku hurt last night? City sure looked somewhere between listless and uncertain in the Villa end last night.

Aston Villa v Arsenal, Saturday 12:30
We’ll soon find out just how good Villa is and whether Arsenal’s struggle with Luton was an aberration.

1-0 Villa. Liverpool at the top of the table? It’s going to be a great second half of the season.

Manchester United 0 Bournemouth 3. Geez, I really think Garteth Soutgate should be able to find better English central defenders than Harry Maguire. No matter what adversity they face, Liverpool seems to be able to find a way to win, as they did 2-1 at Selhurst Park (Crystal Palace). Man City scraped out the same result at Kenilworth Road against Luton. If Arsenal could finish, but they couldn't, so Aston Villa prevailed 1 nil at Villa Park and are looking like the EPL's surprise package of the season. Chelsea were back to their confounding ways, while Everton appear totally galvanized by that points-deduction penalty. White Hart Lane was torn down a few years ago, so, um, what is the name of Tottenham's new ground? Anyway, they finally won again, at That Fancy Big New Arena, pretty easily against a tired and depleted-looking Newcastle side. The title race still looks pretty open.

Anyone doubt that Aston Villa is for real? Hats off to Crystal Palace, and Man City will soon be welcoming Kevin de Bruyne back with open arms; Haaland scoring goals would also help. Thanks to Man United's stout defensive effort, the title race remains very tight.

Pretty sure Haaland didn't play in the draw with Palace -- which City should absolutely have won, leading 2-0 late. They need KDB.

I have really enjoyed watching Watkins and Bailey for Villa. That team plays nice football, and they are brimming with confidence. Really dumb red card on the Brentford defender in that game.

Correct, Haaland didn't play against Palace. He had lost his scoring touch and has gone a few games without starting. Strikers typically go through barren patches, although Haaland had missed some chances that looked especially easy before being removed from the starting line-up.

As for the Champions League, not an easy draw for Barcelona.
