UVA @ Syracuse Sat. 4/20 2 pm

Post by The Orfling »

Starting a game discussion thread.

UVA off to a strong start here, looking pretty focused. Saw one not-very-disciplined moment that UVA got away with: after Mule scored for Syracuse to make it 2-1 UVA (at that point), #29 of UVA came over a few beats after the shot and just shoved Mule. It was just a shove, not a cross-check, not dangerous so no flag, but it seems to show some chippiness between the two teams.

So far UVA playing crisper, more mistake-free lacrosse.

Refs may be letting 'em play, 'Cuse knocked down a UVA guy and no pushing call. So this one may be rough and tumble!

Right now it's me discussing the game with myself, :D but 'Cuse really needs to start getting its shots on the cage. Tough stretch: Syracuse misses the net on a good opportunity, then throws an intercepted pass, pole goal by UVA's Wayer for a 4-1 lead.

Cuse running in on unsettled D from UVA is really working from them. Gotta keep up that pressure

Great point. Excellent Hottle goal just now on a fantastic outlet from Will Mark to bring 'Cuse back within 1 (4-3), followed up by the equalizer by Luke Rhoa. UVA really outplayed Syracuse for much of the first quarter but now a tie game -- Syracuse can be so explosive.

Mark looks like he's heating up; he's so good. And Syracuse is not going to let UVA out-scrap them. Excellent first quarter.

Lars seems to be one of the few coaches who somehow doesn’t realize you don’t want to play an up and down game with cuse. That’s their game. Settle down and make them play defense for a full 60-80 seconds and they crumble.

Syracuse rolling! 6-0 run. Hiltz is playing exceptionally, has 2 goals and an assist already and is a pipe away from a hat trick.

I always struggle to have a sense of what's saveable and what isn't in terms of evaluating goalie play, but right now Will Mark does seem much more dialed in than his counterpart in the UVA net.

Although I think Lars is a good in-game/halftime adjustment guy. UVA certainly has the personnel to excel in 6 v 6 offensive sets. So we may see it settle down.

As if it wasn’t already, it’s becoming more and more obvious just how good Dickson was

I have heard that it is tough for opposing goalies to pick up the ball in the Dome. But wow. Two weeks in a row. Maybe not a single "he really should have had that one" but you want to steal one every once in a while.

Shelly with assists to Millon and Cormier. Not much you can do about that.

Nunes with his first save in two weeks!!!
