Preseason All-Americans

Post by BigMoose9 »

A little surprised D3 preseason AA list hasn’t been released yet. With the IL D1 being posted today, I would expect the D3 one to be within the next couple of days. Anyone want to list their thoughts on who they think will be first team? Taking a stab at it I’d go

Attack
Jude Brown (Salisbury)
Luke Kammerman (Roanoke)
Will Byrne (Bowdoin)

Midfield
Andrew Cook (CNU)
Jack Dowd (Salisbury)
Riley Mitchell (Lynchburg)

Defense
Mike Grace (RIT)
Ryan Young (CNU)
Joey Waldbaum (Tufts)

Fogo
John McKee (Dickinson)

SSDM
Zach Goorno (Bowdoin)
Elliot Cohen (W&L)

Goalie
Zac Hanway (CNU)

Thoughts?? Could have done four players for A/M but tried to keep it honest.

The only two things you can really argue on this list is the Face-Off spot and not having John Defazio.. Paddy Condon(SLU) and Warner Cabbanis(CNU) have been exceptional and I would personally put one of them as the 1st teamer. Cabbanis is a 2x AA(2nd in ‘22 & 3rd in ‘23) and he went over 50% against Dickinson just last year. Condon is coming off a 2nd team AA year. McKee is great so I’m sure there is an argument for him as well.

Other than that I think this list is flawless. So many great players in D3 this year and I already can’t wait for the games to start piling in.

Agreed- John Defazio is a POY candidate…best defenseman on the best team.

Outside of DeFazio being a first teamer, this will be more accurate than inside lacrosse or lacrosse magazine. Good work.

Realized I forgot to put an LSM. I know DeFazio plays a mix of both and he honestly just slipped my mind. Would definitely have him on the first team.

Preseason list is finally out… RIT and Tufts with 4 first-teamers each. CNU with most selections at 9.

Dylan Hanley from Western New England had 122 points last year and is no where to be found on the IL list

Probably because WNE hasn't poster their roster and he was senior last year. Only people who knew he was coming back are connected to the team somehow.

USILA just released their list as well, which is obviously much more official than the IL list.

Call me crazy, but having that Roanoke 1st Teamer is wild. Trae Young type... good stats, doesn't contribute to winning against the best.

I bet you thought the same thing about Jude Brown when he was at SMCM.. Great stats but didn’t contribute to winning against the best. We saw what happened when a great player from a bad team goes to a top school.

If a player puts up 200 points in 2 years with solid schedule I don’t think it’s wild to put him as a preseason 1st teamer. If he was putting up all of his stats against terrible comp, I’d agree with you but I looked at his game log and he has some good games against solid teams:
- 7A vs. Dickinson
- 3G/1A vs. Gettysburg
- 4A vs. Lynchburg
- 5G/1A vs. W&L

Can’t blame him for his defense giving up 15+ to good teams.

No, I won't blame his defense for their losses. But I'll also cherry-pick my stats that comply with my argument:
5 pts. - Sewanee
6 pts. - Averett
6 pts. - John Carrol
5 pts. - Mary Wash
5 pts. - Ohio Northern

Don't wanna bash him... I think he is a good player. Just unsure if there aren't more deserving guys

Kammerman was the ODAC player of the year last year (over every single player from forum-darlings Lynchburg and W&L). Is that not deserving of 1st Team AA and preseason 1st team the next year?
