Is CNU still great?

Not as dominant as past teams. Still a top 6 team imo but has the ability to lose to lesser teams, which wasn’t the case the past few years. Still wouldn’t be surprised if they make a deep run in May.

A team can have a great game, a great season, or be great over the course of time. All have different definitions. Where do you set the bar for great?

It depends on which matters most to the individual in a specific discussion.

Hobert and Salisbury = great D3 lacrosse. Who else?

All that matter is who wins the final game in May. Let’s see who is left with the W.

Not sure what happened in the 3rd Quarter as the captains looked lost on defense and did not execute at all on offense.

Looks like coach Thompson was on the field trying to get a time out called in OT but the refs weren’t granting it with ball loose on the ground still.

Couple bad possession calls by the refs as well in OT and a miss high hit call which should have given CNU a man up opportunity.

As the goalie situation, with three games in a row below 50% saves %, the freshman goalie should be the starter for the remainder of the season.
Congrats to St. Lawrence. Two excellent teams and sadly, one had to lose. There….I’ll post it here instead of looking for excuses.

2for17.. maybe stop running the offense through this kid that couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat. I think he’s out of shape

What a fun game to watch. The Miller brothers were the highlight of the weekend. Love the skill and IQ out of the younger Miller.

I hate to say it, but the freshman keeper McCulloch should be starting. He's provided a spark each time he's subbed in, and something is off with Hanway. 6 saves and 11 GA for him. Many of which were outside 10-12 yards, a few were stickside high or right above his head. I think if McCulloch had played the whole game, this is a CNU win.

Love seeing some younger guys step in for this group. Seems they need that fresh blood this year and it helps set them up for next year after so many will graduate.

Great win tonight for the CNU. Lynchburg came out hot but the captains didn’t back down. Cook, Auslander, and the Miller brothers stepped up. Also, Hanway made some huge saves late to seal the win. The Captains looked like a top 5 team tonight. On to the next.

This was probably Hanway's best game of the year so far. Good to see him coming back a little bit. Still strange to see Cabaniss not nearly as dominant as we've come to expect.

Loved the energy in this one. Nothing like a rivalry game where you can taste the dislike between the teams through the broadcast.

Auslander is MVP for me in this one. Also credit to Ryan Young for putting the team on his back and willing his way to scoring in transition when the Captains looked comatose for that stretch in the middle of the game.

Curious how the Captains fans saw that push call against LYN. Looked like Brendes with a little bit of gamesmanship/hit the dead fish once again, but this time not in celebration. Obviously an ODAC homer take, but with a scrum in front of the crease and the defender on the ground, not sure that was truly a push. My confidence in the LYN 1st line would say they tie that up and we get another OT finish in that one.

Either way, love watching CNU vs ODAC teams. They've really positioned themselves in a spot where the entire state wants a piece of them. The margin between LYN and the Caps is +2 in CNU's favor... over the past 6 matchups. A true rivalry matchup. Might do an entire ODAC vs CNU analysis for fun instead of staring at these spreadsheets.

Both teams face a NESCAC challenge - CNU v Williams tonight in what was a great game last year for Hanway, and LYN vs Amherst on Sat. Might be the best Late March matchups we've seen in a long time.

I watched the game but didn't see that last play closely enough to have an opinion on it. I did feel like there were a lot of violations/penalties that could have been called and weren't throughout the game, for both teams. If you want to point out that call you could point out plenty of others the other way.

Embarrassing.

CNU needs to take a long and hard look in the mirror. Starts with the coaches. Running offensive sets that are clearly not working and the defense is incredibly out sync with no discipline.

Yea man. That team that played today isn’t beating Salisbury this year. Not a chance.

Agreed. Berkman is going to come up with a game plan that will eat this team alive. Going to be ugly.

Has definitely been a disappointing season down in Newport News. Not sure what is going on in the locker room or with the coaching staff that can’t get this veteran led and talented group of players to play to the level they have in the past. Best way to rebound is a season is to pick up a win vs Salisbury. But based on the way things went last year and the way they are this year, I expect it will be a long game for the Captains.

Smoke in the cockpit….Big fan watching the development of this program last 10 years. They will continue to be a top 10 but this was their year. If you can’t do it this year it may still be awhile before they win a championship. What I thought would be a strength (5th years) is becoming an issue. I had a conversation with a D3 Coach who also has a number of 5th years and he said it comes with issues and at a cost to roster development. CNU is a very good team but will not beat Salisbury, Tufts or RIT when it maters
