She has become a has-bean. Don’t think I’ve ever had that, but I will make this in her honor for Thanksgiving.

Tony Joe White of Polk Salad Annie fame and other swamp rockers. I'm not sure why it's spelled polk when we all know it's poke. Euell Gibbons wrote all about stalking the wild asparagus or poke. As a kid my uncle took us kids out to pick poke. It was cooked in a pressure cooker with lots of butter and was pretty good. I never had it raw in a salad. Anyway Tony Joe died today and some of his songs are on my play lists. Another good one gone.

Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, Leicester City FC owner, confirmed dead in crash of his helicopter just after it had departed from center circle and cleared the stadium. Foxes had just completed a last minute comeback for a draw against West Ham. Was a much beloved figure in Leicester.

Polk is an alternate spelling. Of course it should be Poke Sallet Annie if you are a true Southerner...

Willie McCovey: Giants legend dead at 80
Source: San Fransisco Chronicle

Willie McCovey, the Hall of Fame first baseman who spent 19 of his 22 major-league seasons with the Giants and became one of the most beloved players in franchise history, has died at the age of 80.

McCovey died at Stanford Hospital Wednesday afternoon of what the team called “a battle with ongoing health issues.” He had been in a wheel chair for many years and had a serious infection four years ago that nearly took his life. He recently developed another infection and was hospitalized late last week.

I was at Shea Stadium back in '64 and saw him hit a long HR. Awesome player back in the day.

An obit for Orange County:

http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la ... story.html

“Orange County,” the California collection of 34 cities and 3.2 million residents once described by President Reagan as where “all the good Republicans go to die,” died Tuesday. It was 129 years old ... At its prime, Orange County was a region of contradictions. It considered government evil even as it benefited from the largesse of defense contracts. It stressed its Christian values even as it fought to maintain its segregated schools. It swore by law and order even as it elected politicians and sheriffs who landed in federal prison for corruption.

OC created the tax revolt but then went bankrupt. Ironically it got bailed out by mostly Democratic tax payers, just like Texas. Biggest hypocrisy ever.

That’s funny. OC, except The Wedge, was a place you had to drive through to get from LA to San Diego. A place of wide streets and strip malls like South Jersey. Now it’s a hub of tech and bio tech, so now there are lots of Asians, East Asians, Russians. Smart people.

Roy Clark was among the best. Incredible instrumentalist, entertainer and spent part of his childhood on Staten Island.
