On a quick scroll I don't see any picks for Cornell, so Eamon is my pick for both wooden and
plastic stick era. Didn't matter which stick he used, and he used both. Probably one of the last
greats to use a wooden stick and he didn't like giving it up.

I agree with that analysis. His wooden stick skills would be competitive today. If one were to include longevity in many aspects of the game, leadership in the game and ongoing contribution, Mike French would need to be up there as well.wrapcheque wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 9:00 pm On a quick scroll I don't see any picks for Cornell, so Eamon is my pick for both wooden and

UMass - As good as Sal was in goal, Mark Million was the best player in the world shortly after graduating (1998). A toss up between those two.

For Lafayette, it’s probably Tommy Perini or Steve Serling.

Re: Best player in your school’s history
Probably correct with Grant Jr, but Alex Smith needs to be in the discussion at some level. 3x AA, led UD to their first ever final four. Singlehandedly got faceoff rules changed because of his dominance and other teams' reactions.10stone5 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 7:59 pmGrant Jr was a game changer, one of the more transformative players in NCAA lacrosse history. There are any number of players whose style of play was adapted from Grant Jr’s.
Grant Jr was / is a lacrosse savant, son of another lacrosse savant, John Grant Sr.
Grant Jr should be in the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
When he led the Blue Hens to the 1999 quarterfinals, back when it was a major accomplishment for a team like Delaware to actually win an NCAA tournament game, the Hens played North Carolina, Loyola, Georgetown, Navy, UVA - no cupcake schedule at all - and Grant Jr scored at will against all these teams except for #1 Loyola.
Grant Jr scored 110 points that year, 6.5 points per game, a standard in point production which held until the arrival of Lyle Thompson 15 years later.

Another Grant will likely be at the top of the list of Delaware players for years, Owen Grant.
Looking at the record books, Steve Shaw is also one of the best faceoff guys of all time.

I've seen them both play (and had brief opportunity to play w/them), both worthy. Darren Lowe was small but holy crap was he fast, and had eyes on back of his head, could feed from anywhere, whether looking at you or not. AT was physically imposing, and talented. I believe Lowe won the Tewaaraton before it was a thing (maybe offensive mvp for d1)FMUBart wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 2:17 pmAndy T is my pickDALaxDad wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 1:44 pmLowe was excellent, but I think I'd have to go with Malloy for players I have seen. Cliff Stevenson was always partial to Tom Draper, using him as an example of what we should become as players.bearlaxfan wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 1:26 pm Brown's Darren Lowe & Dylan Molloy have the most props. I never saw Lowe play. There are also some guys besides Lowe from the Starsia years. Any nominees? Or from Stevenson's years as coach?

Zip was a few years ahead of me in HS. Didn't realize he played D1. Those years' lacrosse teams were talented; 2 guys played at Brown, including an HM attack (Bill Olsen), one guy D1 at Michigan State, and many D3.
Not bad for RI in the mid 1970's.

Harden was captain of the undefeated 1991 national championship squad. That year he was First Team All-ACC, First Team All-America, ACC Player of the Year and the Schmeisser Award winner. In 2002 he was named to the ACC 50th anniversary men's lacrosse team.
Michael Burnett played roughly from 1979-83. Attack. I think he was an exceptional player from the film I’ve seen. (Seivold was obviously effective yet bizarrely slow for a middie)
Re: Best player in your schools history
UVA’s best player of all time is likely a current player, Connor Shellenberger. I’ve head a few Hoo alum who are otherwise in this discussion admit that.
If you had to take another name because current players can’t be considered, I guess I’d go with Steele Stanwick.

For those who saw them both play a lot there is no question about who changed the game
(for the better) with creativity and style of play the most though. Think the Powells will (do)
say the same.
It's all good.
Gary versus Powell is an impossible task to split differences. If you had to decide, I’d agree that Gary’s influence on the game itself was more pronounced.
