SP getting thrashed by St Ignatius then topping Bullis is not computable. I can’t trust my St Paul’s buddies to provide objective opinions anymore 😂

Anyway, a HUGE game today imo is McDonogh versus Chaminade in Delaware. I’ll check back in tonight after I see the score.

Random: please post more HS analysis including MIAA. Thanks.

I wouldn’t have predicted this, but McDonogh just beat NY’s Chaminade 12-10. I was following the McDonogh Twitter feed so I have no real color, but McDonogh raced out to a 6/0, then 9/3 leads, as Chaminade chipped away toward the end. McDonogh goalie had a great save with 55 seconds left.

Good win for the MIAA. Chaminade is obviously very good.

On the downside for the MIAA, Malvern Prep defeated Boys Latin 8-7. Looks like BL led except last five minutes. Malvern Prep might have the team this year. St Anthony’s up next!!
I don't think McDonogh over Chaminade is that much of a surprise. They're still a very good team even though they got whipped by Haverford, and now they're battle tested. Meanwhile Chaminade is just getting out of the gates in their season and hadn't been punched in the mouth yet -- key word being "hadn't" given that first half onslaught by McDonogh. I do suspect this edition of the Flyers might be good rather than great by the program's standards -- two of their starters on offense (including their best player) are sophomores, which is extremely rare at Chaminade. Too early to say for sure though.

Even though they lost, I think the performance by BL was pretty impressive all things considered given how good I think Malvern likely is this year. I think as is typically the case these days, those two will be the favorites in the MIAA. The league is still very deep, but there seems to be an ingrained hierarchy now, whereas a decade or so ago, the balance of power would shift from year to year. Those two and Calvert Hall have sort of separated themselves from the pack over the past decade, with the decision to dive head first into boarding and recruiting players outside of Maryland accelerating the divide.

Early expecations for this season:

Tier 1 (favorites): BL and McDonogh

Tier 2 (contenders): CHC, St. Paul's, maybe Gilman

Tier 3 (fighting for the last playoff spot): Loyola, Severn, St. Mary's, Spalding

Tier 4 (would be decent teams in most leagues, will struggle to win games in the MIAA): John Carroll, MSJ

John Carroll @ Severn
BL @ Spalding
StMarys @ Calvert H
St Paul's @ Mcdonogh

A lot of "middle of the road" kids (who usually develop in HS) quit lax during covid or focused on other sports.
Depth is down everywhere.

Headed down to see a game next week.

Wondering if they’re still serving Dirt Soup at the Valley Inn.

Asking for a fellow chimp.

Spalding looking great the other night. McD hitting a rough patch, it seems.
Gilman may be one of the stronger teams in the conference too. But lots of challenges left for them.
All these upsets will make the playoff hunt/standings interesting.
The next few weeks will be fun to watch.

Spalding is hard to read. Some great wins, but also stomped by Gilman. Just tired from the bus ride?

Gilman's record looks great, but they have a back-loaded conference schedule. All of their OOC wins are turning out to be against pretty mediocre teams.

What is happening at St. Mary's?
