Northwestern v. Boston College, High Noon 5/28/2023

Post by Seacoaster(1) »

Thread for the Championship.

Frankly do not see BC stopping the multi-headed hydra that is the NU offense. I think NU wins this in the mid-teens, say 15-14. I am hopeful, of course, that this jinxes them.

Eyes say NU, brain says post season BC is scary.
13-9 Northwestern. Just too much there offensively
and defensively. Scane's ride is impressive too.

I don't know if there is a defender in the country who can physically match Scane, she is so strong.

I'll go with Northwestern 11-9. While I always admire BC's combination of talent, tenacity and grit, Northwestern just always seems to find an extra gear when they need it. It isn't just an offense that's more than just Scane (though she obviously helps). The defense is very good at forcing teams into taking low percentage shots, and then Laliberty can steal a few saves too. That's a tough combination to beat.

I think she can be shut down, but the problem of shutting her down is that it takes so much focus and manpower, which is hard to do when Coykendall, Rhatigan, Taylor, Amonte, et al are trying to cause problems at the same time. They have so many options that, if they have to, they will go all the way into their defensive line to beat you--like they did with Carleigh Mahoney during the Michigan game.

I'm really glad that they made it to the final game. Its been wonderful watching them this season. Players on the team have spoken a lot about learning and playing for each other, and it's really felt like they've learned and practiced that over the season. Obviously, it's been great watching Izzy Scane come back and score goals, but what has also been just as great is watching her celebrate the successes of her teammates. I hope I get to see more of that tomorrow.

Jen Kent and her crew will utilize a few different looks to help slow down Izzy Scane. Feel like you will see an early slide, face guard, etc. dolce is going to have to have the best game of her young career!

Massey forecasts a 14-13 Northwestern win with a 58% win probability for the Cats.

I wonder if AWW will try to FG Scane? BC effectively challenged Syracuse to beat it with everyone except MT. BC defenders’ matchups, apart from the unmatchable Scane, are not bad.

Sure, let’s start with a cheap foul call.

Book on Dolce seems to be off sick side. Syracuse had a lot of success there. I think it was a mistake for them to go away from that location.

I hate when teams look for the call or complain after a call doesn’t go their way. Drives me nuts

Both teams definitely showing some title game jitters, But NW has settled in a little more than BC and it's made the difference so far.

Dolce starting out cold. Should’ve made that save. Stick side stick level. But she is capable of heating up. Eagles will need her today.

Wet weather and nerves caused some sloppy play

Agree. SSB is right. They need to shorten up their games in the weather.

I think Scane can beat Scales 1v1. We'll see how that goes as the game goes on.
Aint gonna be no joy in Eaglesville tonight, NU's not gonna get beat. Impressed
with Scane's speed (haven't seen her play too much), Apuzzo like on the chase.

Guess who didn’t get assigned to be an official in today’s game?

Does the bad weather affect the women's sticks more than the men's? (smaller web pockets)
