Delbarton has been ranked behind Chaminade and St. Anthony's in the IL preseason poll each of the last three years. I also think Delbarton has swept those two teams over the last three years. Let's see if they can do it again.

Its true, IL's disrespect for NJ is real. Delbarton has beat them(not sure if they've actually swept) pretty handily (and often away) over the past 3 years. They are always ranked #15-20 then end up at #2-5. I would imagine that some other NJ team should also be on that list, its easy to see how much talent NJ produces at the D1 level.

yeah, nationally NJ doesn't get much respect. i know it's a small sample size, but in 3 years of the Kyle Kirst Challenge with Summit, Chatham and Seton Hall Prep, NJ has only lost 1 game against top Mass teams.

Since scores dont matter what I heard was that they look good on O and in goal(makes sense as they have 4 d1 commited kids who can play attack and a sensational sophomore and they have a junior goalie who is commited to rutgers.) but struggled on D. Delbarton was apparently dominated in on faceoffs as well, but their senior (wesleyan commit) was out with injury and they played some outstanding FO men. Also delbarton had injuries lingering from other sports.

Any updates on scrimmage scores from around the state? Finally, getting close to the real deal.

One of my buds has a son on SHP and gave me the following...

Lakes over SHP, 13-8. Full 4q scrimmage, with starters throughout.

chatham and bosco had a quad with 2 NY teams this past Saturday. Chatham beat bosco 8-3 but it seemed like both teams subbing in their benches throughout the game.

Notable results from the opening day:

#4 Moorestown 10 | #12 Westfield 3 - Surprising at how little production the talented offense of westfield got today. Ben Cantwell set the tone early with a first quarter hat trick. Moorestown is legit.

#15 CBA 4 | #13 Don Bosco 12 - CBA looks physically small and didn't play particularly well, a very one sided game. Sad to see that Bosco's best player, senior UNC commit Destro, will miss the second season in a row due to knee injury. Bosco was also without ranked senior Joey Corbett due to NJ rules about playing 4 years of high school (he played varsity as an eighth grader in NY). Bosco offense looked good.

#20 Bergen Catholic 16 | Montclair 9 - Bergen Catholic dominated from the first whistle. Hard fought effort from montclair, but Bergen just had too much talent. Felt bad for Montclair goalie(Wesleyan) who is excellent - he had 16 saves - as his team was constantly on defense and often gave up shots within 7 yards. Will Schiffenhaus(Navy) for montclair had a good day with 4 points. Middie Michael Kearney(Bryant) had 5 points, DJ Kelly(Holy Cross) had 6 at attack, and Brett Zabransky(St. Joes) had 3 from the midfield.

#17 Chatham 10 | RFH 6 - Don't know much other than it was played at High Point Solutions and the Chatham goalie had 12 saves.

#5 Ridgewood 10 | Lawrenceville - Don't know much.

#1 Delbarton 15 | Madison 4 - Dominant effort by Delbarton, this game was never close. Senior Michael long(Cornell) had 8 points and CJ Kirst(IL top 100) had 7 points. Delbarton owned faceoffs. They will have a tough test at #8 nationally St. Anthony's and #1 high school recruit Brennan o'neill saturday.

SHP plays borderline top 25 nationally La Salle tomorrow.

Knowing not all that much about Jersey lax, that issue with the Bosco player sounds very odd. A few states, such as NY, do not have the 4 year restriction so you will see the odd talented 8th grader on Varsity. For those like Jersey however that do, why would you ever play an 8th grader on Varsity when it means he won’t be able to play as a senior? Was he in 8th grade in another state?

For whatever reason, NY allows any 8th grader that can pass a “fitness test” eligible to play varsity. That dbp player must have played, but now since he’s going to a school in NJ, he’s only allowed 4 varsity seasons.

So he played in 8th grade in NY then moved to NJ and the NY 8th grade season counts as one of his 4 for Jersey? That would really be a bummer.

Yep. Happened to a player that is now at UNC - was a reclass and had to sit his senior year of high school.

Luckily NJ.com is saying that he will just have to sit out for the first few weeks of the season, he will be eligible in 3 weeks.

Delbarton still at #1 despite suffering a loss at St. Anthony's, they will play Montclair tomorrow. Seton hall prep comes from behind to take down Malvern Prep 8-7. Delbarton will play MP this Saturday. Mountain lakes is looking good, they will play Don Bosco Prep, who just fell to IMG(FL) this past weekend, Saturday at 3 pm. Seton Hall prep takes on westfield tomorrow at 4:30 in what should be a good test of the SHP defense. Ridgewood has a tough week playing Ramapo tomorrow at 7, Hunterdon Central thursday at 4:15, and Westfield saturday at 1. Ridge takes on a good Pingry squad Wednesday at 4. Moorestown suffered a surprising loss to St. Augustine after demolishing Westfield. Any thoughts on the season so far, rankings, or future match ups?

BU--just wondering how you feel about this after Delbarton's loss to St. Anthony's this weekend. St. A's is stacked this year, so no shame in that loss, but the game doesn't sound very competitive.

I believe you can watch the replay on St. Anthony's live if you want a glance. Delby's offense didn't look strong, but St. A's in my view after watching this game will be in the running for the best team in the country this year. #34 on St. A's lives up to the hype, drawing the attention of the entire defense (even in a very well coached system like delbarton). St A's has 2 d1 bound FO men (#17 who played virtually the whole game is one of the highest ranked in the country, and apparently toasted the ranked duo of a princeton bound senior and a yale bound junior at chaminade). Delbarton rotated 2 at the face-off X, neither were able to come close to the clamp, but 1 was forcing #17 to mess up after the clamp, but it looked like delbarton was giving up possession in favor of stopping the fast break. The delbarton FOGO should not have a matchup disparity like this for the rest of the season, especially in NJ. Delbarton surprisingly is going with a senior goalie, and not the rutgers bound junior. This being said the goalie was not the reason they lost, he played well. Delbarton just ended up playing a lot of defense. On paper their offense is arguably stronger, but from what I've seen their defense is their strength. The offense hasn't "gelled" yet. I think this year will be much more competitive in NJ than last. Mountain lakes looks good from top to bottom, as does SHP. Ridgewood and Ridge seem good, I just don't know very much about them. I wouldn't say that this game was that alarming, St. A's is very, very talented, but it was certainly an indication that delbarton is not the clear #1 in NJ for the moment. Delbarton plays Malvern Saturday, who SHP just played, and then SHP thursday the following week.
