As is my habit, I have calculated KRACH ratings (you can look up old explanations posted in prior years) which are designed to show the relative strength of teams in the situation where there is limited cross conference play. (KRACH is an acronym for Ken's Ratings of American College Hockey).
System assumes assigning a number to each team, where that number divided by the sum of the numbers for two teams playing represent that team's probability of winning. There is a way to calculate those numbers so the predictions add up to the actual record for each school.
This system is what is called retrodictive - it is meant to predict the past games, and in effect, shows what each team has earned. It has a limited means of prediction of future games, as it only predicts the future wins and losses assuming the records of the past games are the best predictors. Think of it as RPI+record combined in a sense, telling you who earned top ratings by their past performance in the year.
So for all my ratings, I am only including DII vs DII games. All games against DIII, DI, and NAIA are excluded.
Over the years of making this calculation, the numbers come out surprisingly well in predicting the field for the NCAA tourney...
